As long as its boxed and/or reinforced correctly, I dont see a problem with it. I've seen more than a few built from 3/16 that didnt have any problems...

3/16 is right at the breaking point. Would 1/4" be stronger? Probably, but is it worth the weight gain? I personally don't think so....

maybe at the brackets 1/4" and the actual tray 1/4" it would be worth the weight

I fail to see how 1/16 of an inch is going to make large weight gains.


Warn specs say 1/4'', but 3/16 should be fine if done right. If you have the 1/4 use it. If you have the 3/16, use it. You can always build another down the line...
