Charlotte relocation

Hello all,
I know there are some charlotte people here. My fiance and I are looking at jobs in Charlotte (Siemens relocation) and don't know the area well. It's looking more and more like the location will be the CLT area.
Are there any areas that we should stay away from? Any areas that we should move toward? We don't have any kids and are going to rent for probably a year or so until we can afford to buy (after looking at the areas and what's available).
Any info/help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Without knowing your price range and what not, there's nice apartments in the downtown area that are within walking distance to restaurants, bars, the Panther's stadium, the Arena (Hockey and Basketball)..if you're into doing stuff like that. If you don't mind driving to do stuff, there's lots of apartments on the outskirts of Charlotte proper. Personally, I like the South, East, and North sides of just outside Charlotte (Mint Hill, Matthews, Indian Trail, Pineville, Harrisburg, Concord...just to name a few if you're looking for them on a Map). All are within 20-25 minutes of Charlotte proper and get you out to the more rural areas if you prefer to have a less busy place to live.

Funny you mention Siemens, I just applied for a position there this morning.

My friends in Charlotte tell me that the neighborhoods have been changing a lot with the housing crash. I think your plan to rent for a while is the best idea, maybe near work to save on commuting. That way you can have time to look around, see which places you like to go. It can take you a long time to get from one side of that city to the other!

Planning a visit anytime? Id be more then happy to help someone out looking for a place. What time frame do you think you may be moving?

Like Tim said above it really depends on what you like to live in. I live close to downtown were all the fun is at and I love it, I also love the commute to work 5 min with traffic. I work downtown as well but because of were I live there is little to no traffic.

If you are planning on visiting I can show you around Charlotte I know were most of the good neighborhoods are and were the good investments are as well because of my job.

I'm pretty sure we aren't going to get an apartment. That stopped a while ago. We both want a house and finding a rental shouldn't be a problem.
We are NOT buying immediately. I (and she agrees) have a policy against that. I don't want to get burned in the process.
Relocation timeframe should/could be December if all goes well...which it looks like it will.
I'm not sure about the possibilty for a safe living area downtown in a house we can afford.
Neither of us have been to Charlotte.
Be nice to take you up on a tour James. I'll know more after the honeymoon about the moving and stuff like that.

Wasn't aware you were thinking about renting a house...thought you meant apartment. In that case, that rules out living in the downtown area almost completely lol.

Definitely get up with Jim if you can and get him to take you around. Heck, let us know when you're headed through and i'm sure we can all meet up for a bite or something while you're in town.

Yeah...house. We're too old for an apartment and we have too much stuff. I'd rather just get a house and not have to worry about all the apartment BS.
I should be up there for an interview around the 16th or so give or take a day.

If you need a place to stay instead of burning money on a hotel let me know. Have an extra room at the house.

Appreciate the offer but my company foots the bill for all travel expenses.

That's great! My company fronts the bill for my travel expenses too! :wierd:
Haha

Glad to hear you and the fiance and doing well. And at least with the move you will be closer to the mountains and wheeling country!

Get a jeep for your rental vehicle and "get lost" and drive uwharrie

I can only hope. I'll probably only be up there for an afternoon...maybe the night too.

Tyler. I can't wait! I really hope this happens for me (and us) because I'd love to get the HELL OUT OF FL!!! Get up to some nice areas and go wheeling! I was thinking about getting rid of "Big red" but if this happens I might just sell only the CJ.

Big Day is Nov 6th! Next week I'm going to be a married man.

GL Charlotte is nice but it's also Big. Concord is nice and not far from downtown. There are a few nice places to wheel not too far from Charlotte. URE being one of them and Callantee being the other.

Yes it's probably a fairly big city. I grew up in Baltimore though, so I know a little something about city life!

I honestly don't know where we'll end up. Me and my wife to be will have to go up there (provided I get hired which I should) and look around. I'm anxious to move out of FL and stop my travelling job.
Nearby wheeling will be a nice plus.

Florida sucks. I lived there and my parents still do. I don't think I have been back there to visit in like 4 or 5 years.
