Chapter Meeting/Run?

whatever. sorry you're taking/making this personal. it really wasn't my intention to **** anybody off; i was merely trying to motivate/organize folks to make this meeting happen.

that said, i'm done w/ this thread as i'm going WHEELING tomorrow... :)

...i just hope for the sake of that guy coming down from winter park that SOMEBODY shows up at 10 am.

I'm going to be there at 10:00am if nothing breaks on the way. Got the rig on the tow dolly, I just have to drop the driveshaft and clean things up a bit. Looking forward to a good day of wheeling.

The main two things I wanted to cover at the meeting were scheduling a winter meeting. I was thinking along the lines of meeting at the Georgetown ice races and then try a run somewhere if the weather permits.

The second thing was starting the planning on the next year's ColoradoFest.

Another thing I just thought about was a swap meet. Maybe we could coordinate with the ILJ crowd, the Colorado4x4 crowd, and the ColoradoXJ list. We might make it a small fund raiser with a donation asked for, maybe not. Anybody have any input.

great idea tom!

maybe we could talk to bandimere speedway, as they recently added two *huge* parking lots (dirt) which can easily be seen from C-470 (so could potentially attract 4x4 passers-by on the highway). nice spot for the trailer queens too...

Terry, why don't you grow a pair. I take it that you can't express a difference of opinion without tipping the scales in your favor? Altering a quote to fit your purposes..... childish. If your gonna quote me, then leave my words in tact.

Disappointing.

Tom,
I wouldn't worry about having a trail leader with previous experience for Spring Creek. That's such a well traveled and marked trail from what I'm being told that you shouldn't have any worries about getting lost or anything. Just take the Wells book!

Unfortunately, the attendance for this meeting/run isn't going to amount to much. It appears that at 10am, it'll be just you and DurangoXJ, and two others coming around noon. That sux.

Do ya think there might be any merit to holding a Colorado Chapter meeting at the Moab event to discuss the issues/events you already mentioned? Looks like there'll be more Colorado folks there for that event.

If you're still set on holding the meeting at 10am, I might be able to fly up there right after work - depends on how busy the shift was. I get off on a good day after 8 am.

I'm going to be there at 10am. Probably by myself, but I have some work I can do while waiting. No big deal. The BOD can always discuss any issuse online or on the phone.

I'll have my cell for anybody wanting to coordinate today. 970-690-6270

Having a Colorado Chapter meeting in Moab????? Something is just wrong about that. We would never live it down. The funny thing is that the Moab guys want to come to Colorado to wheel and the Colorado guys want to go to Moab. I guess the grass is always greener........

Well, FWIW, I will be there around 10. I know my name isn't in red (yet) so any criticism here is almost invalid. I know my XJ isn't hitting the trail this weekend since there are too many other necessities invading my time. I know I was one of the ones who did next to nothing except say he'd be there. But I'll be there. Sniff sniff. I'm getting all misty.

Anyway, if this "meeting" turns out to be nothing other than a couple of us doing a meet/greet before a trail, so be it. I'll be making as many of these events as I can from here on out. I will see you all (whomever it ends up being) at the BK in a couple hours.

Well, it was good meeting y'all...one of these days I need to get that D30 regeared so I can enjoy as well. Of course, had I joined you on the trail my tranny line would have puked somewhere more inaccessible than it did tonight. Ahhh...the joys of my Jeep.

Had a good meeting. Discussed setting the next meeting and then one in January or February at the ice races in Georgetown.

We've been talking about a swap meet, maybe getting the parking lot at Bandemere Speedway and inviting the other clubs.

We started with 4 jeeps running Spring Creek, but the time we got up there we had picked up another couple along the trail. It was a bit wet and it snowed on us for a while. The rock garden was fun with a combo of mud and snow but three of us made it all the way through with no assistance and only the guys without lockers taking the bypass. XJHammer with his rig running open made it about 2/3rds of the way through until he hit a clearance problem. We were impressed.

Stopped at Beau Jo's pizza in Idaho Springs and everybody feasted. All in all a VERY good day of wheeling. Only one minor breakage. A cable disco on XJHammers rig cut loose but 10 minutes worth of work had it up and running.

The only vehicle to take a strap all day was a TJ with street tires that we met on the second obstacle.

There was a Chevy in the Rock Garden with a rear axle & tire sitting out about a foot from where it was supposed to be. That's going to be fun to get down.

Sorry I missed it! On the upside, I'm geared and locked now!

Thanks for a great time. Nice to put a face and a real name to some of the screennames. I am going to post some pics on my flickr.com page, but I'll be sending Old_Man all of the digitals I took of the trip. My XJ should be ready to run Moab in a couple weeks, if I can just find that great gear man and get that hooked up. Spring Creek is a nice trail with a little something for most of us. A little mud, but not enough to really scare anyone. I'm anxious to get mine up it before winter fully sets in and see how it works.

As far as our swap meet thingie goes, I'll talk to Avenger and RockWare and see if they have an interest in making a showing. Thanks again guys and gals. Can't wait for next time!

Troy... that was not meant to disparage you; it's merely an online/forum "style" for focusing a thread w/o having to repeat what was written (sometimes as "yadda yadda yadda").

In any event, I'm still not sure how this has seemingly escalated... ?!

Again, I was merely trying to "step up" and organize the meeting since the officers had not confirmed anything yet w/ less than a week to go (and previous criticisms, not from me mind you, was that there wasn't enough advance notice). As far as I knew, all three of you could have been out of town-- I never even mentioned you by name. Yet for some reason you chose to imply that because I wasn't an officer nor a member (yet) that my input didn't matter. ?!
(I'll ignore the comments in your last post.)

FWIW, I was planning on officially joining at the Moab event, though now due to a sliced sidewall both of those plans may be in jeopardy as I may end up having to replace all 4 tires (since I was going to go bigger next season anyway). Needless to say this wasn't in the budget. :(

Anyway, the point is I certainly don't see that there needs to be bad blood between us over something so insignificant. I've enjoyed wheeling w/ you and expect to do so in the future. I'm hoping we can shake hands next time we meet on the trail again and put this thread behind us.

Terry

Terry,

No bad blood, just expressing my issue with the manner in which you chose to be critical of the officers of this chapter.

Basically, your original post couldn't have come at a worse time - there were a number of members (myself included) having some opinionated discussions regarding membership and how certain non-members appeared to be encouraging non-membership.

Then, I see your post that was worded in a manner that truely appeared to be a criticism. Your not being a member and posting in that manner just set me off. Especially because it was you - the last guy I'd expect to be critical.

"Yet for some reason you chose to imply that because I wasn't an officer nor a member (yet) that my input didn't matter. ?!"

Input is one thing, criticizm from a non-member on an open forum toward title-holding members is quite another. EVERYONE'S input matters, non-member criticizm isn't gonna be welcomed - no matter who you are. Input is encouraged on open forums, criticizm should be back channel, using private messaging or e-mail.

My school of thought about membership is this: Being a member means you care about the club and about the forums. It shows commitment and an investment. Non-members can come here every day and freeload, spout criticizm, and start flame wars if they choose to. They have the ability to disappear without losing a thing. They could care less about the organization - it's all about what the organization can do for them - for free.

That is total disrespect. I know enough about you Terry to know that you'd make a good member - you care about the club and the forums. You participate in and attend events. You and your Jeep have benefitted a lot from this club. Your being here for so long without becoming a member - to me - seems almost disrespectful.

But of course, all of the above simply represents MY opinion.

If you make it to Moab Terry, I'll look forward to hearing that you signed up. If you can't make it, then I'd love to hear that you took some of your gas budget and applied it toward signing up.

Where you're concerned, it's time. Do the right thing. I wanna see your screen name like this: MMIXJ

hey troy,

well said (and a much better argument than "grow a pair"). :D

seriously, your point was well-taken... so i plunked town the virtual coin yesterday via papal and joined.
(note to officers: colorado chapter isn't listed in the membership FAQ).

still waiting for my name to be red (supposedly w/in 24 hours, but that doesn't appear to be the case).

anyway, at this point it looks like i won't make it out to moab next week, but i look forward to wheeling w/ you back here in CO before we get too much more snow!
(what happended to fall?) :sunshine:

It happens when the volunteer membership coordinator has time; usually Skorpyo will do them in batches...give it a bit o'time and if you don't see anything PM Skorpyo and make sure your application went through
