9/25 works for me and friend Dennis. See me in this months JP magazine on page 110. Since the photo I've added 31's, 4.10 gears and another inch of lift.
Platinum Mastercard is now a melted blob.
could i make a request: meet at 11 am (or even noon)?
this would give others a head start that morning so that we don't get logjammed in the rock garden (plus my wife reminded me we have a committment that morning-- D'OH!).
maybe everybody bring a lunch and we could eat together...
Any old time is A-OK with me. Might have a soon-to-be member or two bringing their XJ's along, too. How long of a run is Spring Creek...Rockcrawler.com says if you leave early, you should be done by mid-afternoon. Whatever the hell that means.
if i recall, it "shouldn't" take too long... the problem is often that the rock garden becomes a parking lot of rigs in line waiting, which is why i think the later we go the better. give those folks a chance to go up, get stuck, and get out just as we're hitting the trail.
OK guys, let everybody know how hard this trail is. I've never been on it, but I hear it is no trail for a stocker. Is it realistic to leave the trailhead around noon or so or is that too late?
Never been on it, but I hear that the bypasses will let a stocker with a talented driver & spotter squeak by. I wanna hear first hand accounts, though.
Go to www.traildamage.com and click on the link to the trail lists. Scroll down to "Spring Creek" and read up on the trail there, should be a few pics as well.
Great you can count me in on the 25th. I have never been to the trail but have read about it. Where will everyone be meeting and at what time? I am assuming that a good portion of you will be running a CB, what channel will you be on?
well i've run it a few times... though not yet this year.
even w/ the bypasses i dont' think i'd want to take a stocker through it necessarily, but that could just be me. i suppose as long as the stocker has rock rails and tow points.
assuming there aren't a few dozen rigs going up in our group, i think a noon start time is certainly reasonable. but it all depends on who is up there ahead of us. that's why i'd rather go later, because if there is a line of parked rigs at the rock garden we could turn around and go elsewhere (bill moore lake isn't far). however if you're up there in the morning and run into that line, then before you know it there are a dozen rigs parked behind you and you have no choice but to wait. i'd rather take my chances and let it clear out before we arrive.
it is a fun trail and the rock garden is challenging. i don't think i ever made it all the way through (w/o bypasses) when i was open and running stock gears (made it very close once). however i watched someone else from the XJ list get through it once open (using a little more "go pedal" than i was comfortable with). its wide enough that you have a choice of several different lines (not counting the bypasses). now that i'm locked i'm looking forward to driving all the way through!
how many folks intend to join us? maybe time to take a roll call...
Myself in a stock-drivetrain 90 XJ. Not likely to get the 4.5" and BFG MT 32x11.5's on by then...so meeting only. But at least one (maybe2) friend in an 87 XJ with 3.5" and 31"s will make the meeting and trail with me as his spotter. So, details? Meeting where? When? Trail run when?
I could make the pre-trail meeting but will have to skip the run, no lockers or skidplates yet just a RE 3.5 and 32's. Let me know the time and place if it's a go, I'd like to meet the group.
I'm not gonna be able to make it due to proir commitments; but I ran SC in July and even the bypasses on the garden will stop a stocker, unless you don't care about carnage.
There's a real challenging "extra credit" side trail right at the beginning; stay left at the first turn/ right at the second (left will go downhill). This is also no route for a stocker.
I would say 31's and a locker would be the minimum requirements for either section.
Well, I can't go, my gear guy hurt his hand and had to postpone the rear gears and locker untill this saturday. At this point I just want to get it together and in good condition for Moab...
Sucks I have to miss the meeting though (just was informed I have to work 10-6 as well)
well i'm planning on meeting in downieville at noon (or maybe a tad earlier)... sounds like aaron storms (from CO XJ list) will be joining me. not sure what the delay is from the chapter officers (thought the plan was to give more notice this time?), but i hope to see some of you then, even if we have to make it an "unofficial" run up spring creek.
Noon in Downieville on the 25th (Saturday)
Would that be the Burger King? Everything looks good to get the Jeep rolling by then, but it'll be 2wd so I doubt I'll do the run unless there are good bypasses (doesn't sound like it though)
