Chapter Donation

May I suggest a donation to CORVA Legal Fund? CORVA is the most aggressive organization in California; we are involved in the Lawsuit resulting from the Stanislaus NF and Plumas NF Travel Management Plan. We have a Lawyer working on the State Water Resources Control Board plan for the National Forest (this is a biggie it will affect every NF in California). The BOD is feed up with losing our land and we will fight back, but we need more members, Business members and donations to our legal fund.
Here’s a short list of what we have been doing in 2011
CORVA Accomplishments - October 2011
 CORVA Comments Project: pioneering educational program for off-road enthusiasts
 Special Recreation Permit Process: 2 board members on subcommittee
 Recreational Access Coalition Council: mapping desert uses, CORVA BOD member chair of committee
 Forest Service LEO Task Force: eliminating bias against OHV enthusiast in national forests
 Vote Smart! Voter Education Guide: geared towards off-road enthusiasts
 OHV Advocate Day in Sacramento: "Information and Access 411" for politicians
 Leadership meetings throughout California joining on-the-ground enthusiasts and politicians
 Pursuing legal action with the Sierra Access Coalition and Butte County against the Forest Service
 Organized Off-Road Coalition working together to counter efforts by the State Water Resources Control Board to restrict access in the 17 forests in California to OHV access
 Working to protect access to Rubicon, snowmobile and important OHV areas in WEMO
 Working with other groups to Save Johnson Valley
 Participation in snowmobile access group to working to form collaborative group to retain access to Lake Tahoe Basin area

Been waiting for you to post up...You've got my vote Ken. Thanks again for all that you do for us.

Great suggestion! Thank you!

I'm sorry I'm not already familiar, but what role do you play in the organization?

Thanks again!

I sent messages to FoF and FoTR asking what they may be able to accomplish with a donation of around $2k and this is what I got back from FoTR:

I would recommend that your donation go to blue ribbon coalition and the cal4wheel foundation. Nothing wrong with rtf either but the two mentioned above fight for cal trails and national public lands.

When I get a response from the Friends of Fordyce I will post it.

My role with CORVA is Assistant Northern Director –Legislation, this is a volunteer position and I donate all of my expenses. I have just completed my first year in this role so I’m learning a lot of how the OHV system works here in California. CORVA only has one person on payroll that would be Amy Granat our Managing Director she is worth every penny!

We have several legal actions within the borders of the Chapter so any funds would be used for the legal battle we donate to and will only be used for that battle. I will post up a list of what we have going on.

Feel free to contact me with any Land Use Issues.

Here’s the legal issues CORVA is working on right now in the Sierra Chapters boundaries

• California Water Resources Board Rulebook for Non-point of discharge in the National Forest
This could end all wet weather OHV use in the National Forest along with all volunteer trail maintenance by requiring an Environmentally Impact Report for all maintenance projects.

• Plumas National Forest Lawsuit
This is a 3 part lawsuit
1. Mistakes made in the Final Travel Management Plan
2. Failure to include concerns of Local government and County Law Enforcement
3. Denying access to the elderly and handicapped

• Comments Project to set up Water Quality testing along the Dusy-Ershim trail

There are a couple of ways the Chapter can donate to these legal issues
1. Donate to the General Legal Fund, CORVA can use the fund for any Legal action as required
2. Donate to one of the above issues; Funds can only be use for the action of the Chapters chooses.

I personal feel that the Water Board is the most important at this time, If the Handbook is adopted as is chances are high that CORVA will file a Law Suit!

The water board is tyrannical at best. Its like a red winged faction swooping in to stop most productive activity in the state. You should see the hoops they are making dairymen and farmers go through these days.

The water resources board, based on the results of a number of other issues not just in CA but across the US, seems to be the most important place for spending in defense of access. If I have been reading right, this was a big part of what happened to the Tellico trails, as well as many other smaller trail systems. My "vote" goes there

I recently received word the Water Board issue is going to be a long battle, the good news is that the Cattleman’s Association and the California Farm Bureau have joined the CORVA Coalition in the fight.

The Plumas NF Lawsuit is under way Lassen and Butte counties have joined the lawsuit but has limited their finical responsibility. CORVA has formed a partnership with the Sierra Access Coalition to cover cost that are said to be as high as $150,000, yes we need to come up with a large portion of this.

That Latest is The Governor has fired Daphne Green as Deputy Director Of the State OHV program. We don’t know who we are going to get a replacement and 5 of the 8 Commissioner are up for reappointment in January. Be assured that CORVA will take action if the Governor tries to take the OHV funds.

All this cost money!!! CORVA is Fighting for YOUR Right to Access Public Land but we can’t do this alone. CORVA needs members and donation to our Legal Fund. Please join CORVA and donate to the Legal Fund.
Thanks for your attention

CORVA BOD

So, after discussing it with the current (for another week) SC BOD and the next BOD to take office, we have decided to give $1,000 to CORVA and $1,000 to Friends of Fordyce! The final $500 will be sent to us, from National, sometime after February, so the next BOD will decide who gets that.

I haven't talked to anybody about it yet, but I would LOVE to have a big Meet-n-Greet with all the BOD members, Ken from CORVA, Bret from Friends of Fordyce, and a bunch of other folks from the Sierra Chapter. It might be a long shot, but we'll see what we can work out after the holidays.

Thanks everyone!
Billy

Oh, PS - I got another Fifty bucks in the mail yesterday!

Every little bit is appreciated! It doesn't all have to be fifties and (four)hundreds!

On behalf of the CORVA BOD I would like to thank the Sierra Chapter for your generous donation . These funds will be put to good use fighting for your right to access public lands!
I feel it's awesome that the SC BOD decided to share the Land Use Donation with FOF & CORVA.
Fordyce is one of my favorite trails and since the Rubicon has seen an increase in LEO, Fordyce is getting increase use and abuse!

Let me know when and where for the Meet-n-Greet, I’ll have stickers for everyone!

CORVA, The 'kick-ass' organization fighting for your access

Happy Holiday Everyone

Billy,

Great work on the donations. Sounds like two very worthy causes. Fordyce seems to be the red headed step child to the Rubicon at times. I have spent a little time researching CORVA and they are looking out for us. Thank you Ken for the suggestion and information. Looking forward to a GTG to present the donations and have a beer or two with the group.

Kelly

So when and where should we do this Meet-N-Greet? I am open for anything between the Hollister and Tahoe. I am in the east bay, most days are good for me except Wednesday . We have KOH coming pretty quick , I’ll be heading down on the 3rd of February, coming back on the 12th.
