Chapter Donation

I'm interested in hearing any input as to who should be considered for our next donation.

Obviously, the BOD may or may not end up making the donation to the cause/group that you want or even the cause/group that the majority wants, but we will read all suggestions and consider all options.

The group that receives the donation doesn't have to be an official non-profit group, but it would make it easier to get the match from national.

Oh, and the supported trail needs to be in, or close to, the chapter boundaries - as great as they are, we're not going to support Tellico or Moab with this donation. This is also why we avoid large national groups like BRC or Tread Lightly.

Thanks in advance for your input,
Billy

I would like to see the money be used within the SC. FOF or FOR.

Agreed... FOF... FOR does nicely from Pirate I believe. What other options are there?

im down for FOR or FOF donation.

id also be willing to donate time and materials to slick rock or deer valley early next year for a work day

Spoke with some Rangers at Hollister Hills yesterday. State Parks have had their funding cut and they are in need of funds...Just a thought, seems like most of the chapter has been to Hollister at one point or another.

You thinking of donating to state parks or Hollister in particular? I wouldn't mind to donate to either of them but Hollister has served me well over the years and I like all the play ground improvements. It would be cool to donate to the 4x4 area.

Hollister only...And I bet we can finagle them into using it in a certain area.

FYI, they are also in need of volunteers for trail patrol and cleanup.

I wouldn't mind to help clean up for a day. I took a leak in one of the restrooms and I thought it was sad some lazy ass threw fast food garbage all over the floor when there are two trash cans right out side.

Wouldn't we have to deal with the enormous bureaucracy of a gov't run entity? Can they take donations for specific parks? And can we trust them to not buy a $1,200 garbage/recycling bin?

Thanks,
Billy

Good point. Just throwing it out there.

No, I appreciate the idea, and I could be COMPLETELY wrong... that was just my first thought.

I would think that the only way of getting anything done there in a fiscally intelligent way (labor and materials) would be if an outside group handled BOTH of those things, at no cost to the state, and the state only had to allow it.

Otherwise, I don't think there is any part of the state gov. that can accomplish a sizable project without the same old song and dance (closed bids, state approved subs, contracted suppliers, etc)

Agreed. We should definitely consider how far our donation will get stretched by the receiving entity. And I am 100% sure that a government managed donation will have as much stretch as a 10 year old rubber band.

Dont forget oceano dunes. "pismo". FOTR, FOF, hollister hills, or pismo. Is fine with me. I would appreciate funds to hollister hills. I can look into what is needed to donate, how we could see that the funds get used on the 4x4 side, and possible a trail work weekend after winter.

The ranger from HH just sent me this:

Happy Holiday Ben,

I hope my email finds you and your family well and in good spirits gearing up for the Thanksgiving holiday. I would also like to thank you and your club members for taking the time to participate in the park surveys the other day. Your feedback is very important to the park and very appreciated.

I have attached a flyer( pdf) advertising Hollister Hills SVRA’s next event in the Upper Ranch. When I met you on Saturday this was the event, “Make a Difference Day” Encore I was posting flyers for and also the event we spoke of and please feel free to share this event with your club members and friends.

If you should have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me and I hope to see you soon.

OK guys, I just got word of an incredible opportunity! National has temporarily bumped up the matching funds amount to $1,000 and they are offering a one time donation of $500 toward our choice of charities. That means, if we can get $1,000 together, we'll have a total of $2,500 to donate!!

I'm not sure how much we have available at the moment, but I'll drop Shark Mark a line and see what we need to do to make this happen!

Any other input on the cause we want to support?

Thanks!
Billy

OMG!!! This is fantastic. What a difference $2,500 can do in terms of trail cleanup/repair.

May I suggest a donation to CORVA Legal Fund? CORVA is the most aggressive organization in California; we are involved in the Lawsuit resulting from the Stanislaus NF and Plumas NF Travel Management Plan. We have a Lawyer working on the State Water Resources Control Board plan for the National Forest (this is a biggie it will affect every NF in California). The BOD is feed up with losing our land and we will fight back, but we need more members, Business members and donations to our legal fund.
Here’s a short list of what we have been doing in 2011
CORVA Accomplishments - October 2011
 CORVA Comments Project: pioneering educational program for off-road enthusiasts
 Special Recreation Permit Process: 2 board members on subcommittee
 Recreational Access Coalition Council: mapping desert uses, CORVA BOD member chair of committee
 Forest Service LEO Task Force: eliminating bias against OHV enthusiast in national forests
 Vote Smart! Voter Education Guide: geared towards off-road enthusiasts
 OHV Advocate Day in Sacramento: "Information and Access 411" for politicians
 Leadership meetings throughout California joining on-the-ground enthusiasts and politicians
 Pursuing legal action with the Sierra Access Coalition and Butte County against the Forest Service
 Organized Off-Road Coalition working together to counter efforts by the State Water Resources Control Board to restrict access in the 17 forests in California to OHV access
 Working to protect access to Rubicon, snowmobile and important OHV areas in WEMO
 Working with other groups to Save Johnson Valley
 Participation in snowmobile access group to working to form collaborative group to retain access to Lake Tahoe Basin area
