I took a group of guys up to Bald Mtn Saturday. Had a blast! No snow on that trail yet, but cant wait for it to hit! I took a scenic trip for myself this weekend. I led this group in the morning then took off about 2pm to go seeing all the forest before the snow.
Here is the group I took up, a very diverse group of jeeps!
Then I was off to go explore the roads I had never traveled. Let me tell you, the gov. issue maps rock!
I wound up finding a dead end logging road that faced Dinkey Dome. Caught its just near sunset.
The next morning, took the long way out to McKinley Grove. Home of the oldest and largest living organisim on the planet. The Giant Sequia.
This tree is about 20 feet behind the jeep, its just massive!
One more of the trees. This tree WAS the largest know, it fell in the 70's. I am 6' even. That base is gigantic!!
After the trip to the McKinley Grove, took of into Shaver to get a little gas. Then headed to Hunington Lake. I took the old road though. Its a 1 lane twisty and very gradiant road. Absolutly beautiful scenery, batteries went dead!! After getting to the lake, headed back into Shaver. I stopped into Sand Flats, which would take you into Red Lake, Coyote Lake, Mirror Lake, etc. The gates were closed, but near 5" snow already!
The central sierras were wonderful as always, make sure to check out the up comming runs the Sierra Chapter will be hosting in this area!
