Cars you hate

Gonna throw some fuel on the fire here, but I figure that's my preogative for starting the thread.

The Compass isn't a bad car for what it is.

No, it's not a real Jeep by any means - but that's not what it's meant to be. It's a Subaru-basher (and yes, I'm a long-time Subaru fan), plain and simple. 25mpg on average is nearly double what my XJ gets, it accelerates damned close to the same as the 4.0 can do, outhandles an XJ without argument, and - given the march of time - is a more refined vehicle. But comparing the two is to compare apples and oranges: they're entirely different beasts.

If Jeep can successfully move into Subaru's market, I'm all for it. But if we (as Jeep owners) prevent that from happening, then we only have ourselves to blame when we can't get the vehicles we want.

<Rant Off>

In any event, I friggin' *hate* the Dodge Nitro. Goddamn thing doesn't know how to drive (let alone handle), and it's the basis of the KK - the KJ's successor. Viva la XJ.

damn that's funny. except for the dodge part :D. i actually like the compass. the bodystyle designation really should have been kj for kar-jeep. glad to hear that the pos liberty is gonna die. hey casm, what driveline does the compass have?

The two that I drove were the 2.4-litre 4-cylinder with 'Freedom Drive' (read: AWD, no low range, lockable centre diff) and the CVT transmission. It's basically an AWD Dodge Caliber, and pretty close to what the Patriot will get - though the Patriot is apparently also getting a low range and a little extra ground clearance.

Mom had one before she bought her Jeep. Wasn't an SVT, just a base base base model LX....5-speed, 4 banger, no power anything, did have AC and had an aftermarket CD player I put in. If it wasn't for the constant overheating and the many many recalls (I lost count of how many we got.....it was almost at the point where everything on that car had been recalled at one point or another), it wouldn't have been such a bad car.

It did get really good mpg, i'll give it that. And the constant overheating/running hot meant that we had almost instant heat even in the coldest of winter days.

And I wouln't even go into the water pump that exploded ON THE WAY TO THE DEALER to get it replaced per a recall. Ever seen an exploded WP before?

Hehe, had somebody in the Mercury Mystake version of that car try to follow my old rusted out Lebaron through a corner a little too fast, damn near kist a concrete devider with it.

My cousin has a Mystake of the same year our Contour was....nothin but problems.

Hers is an automatic too, but has the V6. So where we had engine problems, but NO tranny problems, she's having the opposite. She's due for a complete rebuild on her tranny.

One thing i'll say about ours was we didn't have a single issue out of the manual tranny....then again it's pretty hard to eff up a manual.

that cvt may not be as heavy duty as anything we're used to, but it does have its positives. I think the overall low range is 20:1 or so...which is quite a bit lower than ours! (3.8*2.7<12:1<patriot low range). also, there is never a loss of momentum while shifting, sorta like riding a polaris i guess. keeps the engine at its best too, making the most of the 170 or so horsepower.

BTW i freakin' hate the caliber! right up there with the aztek in looks, though it is probably a better car. the main reason though is because it replaced the neon. the neon while girly and cheesy and happy, was a decent econocar with better than average FWD handling characteristics. now we have one more lump of crap minivan/suv thing that is no fun to drive. and who cares if they make an srt4 version, it will never match what the srt4 neon could pull off.

Don't know about that Pump, they're supposed to be building it with AWD, if that's the case it'll actually have traction and most likely accelerate better. What would be important is if they leave the options like they did on the SRT4, GLH/GLHS, and RoadRunner/SuperBee.

Hands down, Mitsubishi Eclipse. I don’t mind if a car is reliable, but those things are a ticking time bomb, just waiting to break a balance shaft belt/timing belt and smashing some valves. But kids love them and think their fast as stink.

I really dislike 'cars' in general. I really don't get excited over much of anything out there unless it has Jeep written on it...just the way I was raised I guess.

If I had to pick the ugliest thing out there I'd say those Kleenex box cars...kinda look like the Honda Element...can't remember the name.

For you "Hybrid Haters" out there, take it from me, if you haven't actually driven the Ford Escape Hybrid, it really is a great vehicle. This is coming from a previously extreme skeptic of anything non-jeep...especially FORD! I easily get the EPA mpg...I got 33 us mpg this summer on the highway...35+ in the city and winter I am right around 27-29 (mostly highway)..it's very cold here. Just a little better than the 90 XJ it replaced :P.

The worst thing about the Escape Hybrid is how temptingly fast the acceleration is (beats the V6 easily off the start...loses the advantage after 40mph or so).
