Gonna throw some fuel on the fire here, but I figure that's my preogative for starting the thread.
The Compass isn't a bad car for what it is.
No, it's not a real Jeep by any means - but that's not what it's meant to be. It's a Subaru-basher (and yes, I'm a long-time Subaru fan), plain and simple. 25mpg on average is nearly double what my XJ gets, it accelerates damned close to the same as the 4.0 can do, outhandles an XJ without argument, and - given the march of time - is a more refined vehicle. But comparing the two is to compare apples and oranges: they're entirely different beasts.
If Jeep can successfully move into Subaru's market, I'm all for it. But if we (as Jeep owners) prevent that from happening, then we only have ourselves to blame when we can't get the vehicles we want.
<Rant Off>
In any event, I friggin' *hate* the Dodge Nitro. Goddamn thing doesn't know how to drive (let alone handle), and it's the basis of the KK - the KJ's successor. Viva la XJ.
