Carnagefest: 8/9/08, REDBIRD SRA Dugger, IN

Thanks!

Well, Davey-Boy backed out.
Now, you'll all get to meet Miles.

Turns out I'm not camping. Got to get back. I'll swing by camp though and stay until I'm tired of babysitting.:D

Flame away....

Not going to be able to make it, have to work on the bridge to my house that is falling down.

Hope you guys have a good time, take plenty of pics... expecially of those rocks!

True to it's name, there was definate carnage at Carnagefest. Redbird once again took it's share of windows. Along with that is upper control arm mount, and a wheeling first for most of us......we had to use a couple of fire extingushers. Wildman is officially a flamer.:flame: Noone was hurt and whats charred and broken can be fixed.

Thanks for a great time guys!

EDIT: Pics are uploading. Alot of them turned out crappy. Seems that after the mud shower that Miles took, the lens had a big smudge on it. All of Brians carnage pics didn't turn out. I'm sure someone else has them though. I know Nick was documenting it pretty well.

My altanator decided to lay down on me right after we left the campground. I tried Rev's "beat the hell out of it" trick and that didn't work. I took a couple bottles of water, put a small hole in the lid with my knife and sprayed it down. I don't know how it was working at all with the mud and crap that came out of it. Still didn't want to charge very good after that. I went to the carwash next to Country Mark and sprayed it down good. It got me home.

Whoever did not go missed a damn good time. I kinda got stuck right off the bat but got through the rest of the trail. Got a couple people muddy. Sorry REV! Good bunch of guys too. Les had a little fire but it turned out better than it could have. Thanks guys for helping my rookie ass through the trail!

Well it sounds like all of you had a good time, wish I could have gone, but I am getting ready to put up my pole barn and had to deal with 6 puppies that are 6 weeks old and think they run the house :( I really wish I could get this work done so I can go play a bit! Oh, and I'm a professional photographer so I could help out with the pictures.
BTW, did anyone mention firewood? I have a whole backyard full from the tornado and the 40 trees I lost :(

BTW, anyone looking for a puppy???? 4 of em need homes in two weeks.... if I can hold out that long :)

Good times were had by all.

Trail 21 was a good trail, nice and tight with several steep hill climbs and descents. It's always fun to watch Brian and Pat in the rocks even though they make it look easy.

No damage or issues with my XJ, just an empty fire extinguisher and CO2 tank. The 4:1 low range I installed last week was great for descending the hills on 21, and the 2-low made maneuvering through the trees easier with the Aussie in front.

Big thanks to Tony and Rick from Redbird for leading us around and assisting with a few recoveries. I know they had a fun day as well.

All of em'

Well ... this "maiden voyage" of the junk pretty much matched that of the Titanic.:(

I knew the transmission was junk before making the trip ... and as I feared, it could not even climb over a rock the size of a concrete block. I just wanted to hook the winch up and pull the damned thing out of the rock garden and call it a day. While winching, I put too much pressure on the steering trying to keep it line up and ruptured the high pressure hose on the power steering pump. As Rev so illustriously put it, I sprayed "highly atomized power steering fluid onto my exhaust manifold" This flashed and started the initial fire. It burned the gas lines to and from the fuel rail which added gasoline the fire. But, because of the great reactions of everyone, several fire extinguishers were right there to put the fire out before it really go outta hand. I just need to replace the lines to and from the fuel rail, the power steering hose, and some vacuum lines.

I have done "tech" at several events, and one of the things we check, is that everyone carries a fire extinguisher. Well, because I had just finished the recent chop and tube work, I did not replace the old fire extinguisher I carried for quite a while. If not for the friends that I have, I would have had to watch the damned thing burn to the ground. There are not enough words to express my gratitude to all the guys that helped me out.

I guess it's time to replace that tired smoking engine and worn out transmission. But one of the first things I'll get (and mount) is a couple of fire extinguishers to have on hand in the Jeep.

Despite the fire, I had a great time. Thanks Brian, Adam, and Ashley, for the Hamburgers, Brats, Potato Salad, Chips, and Drinks.

Les

BTW: Thanks Mike for the nice award and presentation. Too bad that check will not fund my repair bill!
