Car Smash Event... need a car...

You guys have seen them, and probably run them.

I'm looking to do one for my youth group late august. So, where do you get a car from that you can smash up?

Obviously, I'd rather just have one donated. We can give it back to whatever junk yard after. Don't they just use those old cars for scrap metal anyway?

Where did you find one?

From looks of Two bumpers and 4 door dents acquired and had to fix in a year parking at the TA I think you could just hold the event in their parking lot and use the cars there .

Put the word out to your parishioners. Someone will know someone with a clunker sitting in the weeds somewhere.

The cars I've sourced for our NAXJA events have been CL cheapies and generally speaking, I have had to absorb some expense to make it happen. Other times I've made a couple bucks parting out bits and pieces before the event. Generally I look to get what I paid for it in scrap value.

Problem is...... you gotta be able to act fast to grab a junker off CL. SO competitive with the hundreds of scrappers out there getting instant alerts on their phones when new ads come up.

Currently scrap isn't paying a damn thing. Whole cars are netting $100-$150 tops..... that's about $45-$55 per ton. I just took 1100 lbs of metal scrap from my yard to scrap 3 weeks ago and got a whopping $26.

So, yeah, you're gonna need a free car to offset the costs incurred to transport it to and from the event to the scrapper. Or, solicit donations to buy a cheapie car.

Yikes, this will cost more than I thought.
Guess I'll go to old school networking.
