Anyone else heading up this coming weekend? I'm going up, but still deciding what days.

I'm gunning for Sunday/Monday after missing a Fordyce run this weekend.

I will be up there this weekend. I am going in from the Tahoe side. Hitting the trail Friday afternoon, leaving Monday morning early.

On 8/25 a new court order went into effect in the ENF. It is now illegal to operate a wheeled vehicle off of the roads that are designated on the maps attached to the court order. Essentially, you can no longer take your vehicle to your campsite anywhere along the con. You will have to park within the 50 foot right of way.

You can thank the Center for Boliogical Diversity and a bunch of other fucknuts for this. Anyone want to buy a nicely built 97 XJ?

Everybody was heeding this new court order this weekend. That along with not taking their vehicles past the red sign posts at Spider and having fires... (VERY sarcastic tone here)

I'm really starting to get frustrated- it seems that the we are preaching to the chior by posting this stuff here and on other BB's (Pirate, TDO) since the people that really need to be educated are not online. The Little Sluice was nuts this weekend, and the riff-raff was in full force. I can't act like the cops, telling everyone that is doing something illegal that what they are doing is wrong. They see the fire restriction signs coming up, they see the red sign posts at Spider, they know what littering is - it's not worth it to me to have my ass kicked in while I try to "educate" people. So I bite my tongue, discretely pick up other peoples trash, and go to my freezing cold camp site and try to warm up by my Coleman camp stove. I guess now I was at my illegal campsite since we pulled way off to the left as you approach the Box to avoid having someone who is lost drive through our camp in the middle of the night (yes, it happened to us last year and the guy nearly ran over one of our tents - we were VERY far from the actual trail).

Anyway, thanks for the heads up -- but this is one court order that I'm going to ignore for my own safety. Camp within 50 feet of the trail and there will be even more moronic acts of stupidity than there alreay are.

Nemo, sorry to hear the jackasses are still out in force. I have an inverter to run the blender (Jes still holds the record for tastiest Margs!) and to inflate my air mattress. They FS truly expects folks to park on the side of the trail and hike their shit to their camp site. No way would I leave my rig to become an RTI ramp or have the Yota Kids rifle thru my shit. And what, do I run 200 feet of extension cord from my inverter? I am all for a cleaner trail, and believe me, I tread lightly, but enforement of this Order is going to be quite the battle.

Truly, I wonder if there will be trail access by the time I can call my XJ "finished". I am getting very interested in selling all my shit and starting SCCA Rally with a used WRX. I figure between my Saleen, Jeep and Trailer I can come up with enough to field a nice car.

No rig to drag my junk up the hill and marni's ZJ has bad detonation issues right now (intake plenum gasket leak, blah blah blah). I am growing weary of the projects sitting in my driveway. Steering box is puking fluid, check engine light.

Visitors can camp free-of-charge just about anywhere in the national forest, unless it is specifically prohibited. Your vehicle, however, must be parked on a route that is signed as open for motorized vehicles (or within a reasonable distance so as not to block the roadway or create a safety hazard).

What I wonder is what is the practical application of "reasonable distance"? I would expect driving over to Spider to park is beyond a "reasonable distance", but what about driving down to Buck, which is much closer to the trail?

sucks either way, wonder how long until this spreads to Tahoe NF.

This whole roadless project, IMneverHO, has stemmed from one thing: The impact of the area around the box/spider, Bassi Falls, and the FS lack of interest in policing the problems. They would rather just close access than staff the LEO enforcement.

a) This was brought on by asshats and pansies to afraid to confront said asshats over 1998-2003. White trash, poorly parented excuses for human beings fucked up the trail, plain and simple. I watched the carnage in the box (where I met Crash in 99 as a matter of fact) but it encompassed a lawlessness that really screwed things up.

b) From all reports I have heard (remember, I am a web wheeler), the con is extremely clean now, the yota kids are not tolerated, and the human waste issue addressed. Unfortunately the legal wheels were already turning and once they got momentum it was too late to stop the changes. We can only hope that the efforts on the trail in the last two years to properly steward it and educate it's users allow for a better compromise.

Did I mention that I am really liking rally racing ;)

I think the situation on the Con really has been fixed, it's really clean these days, and most people out there know the issues at hand and are being responsible. There will always be the asshats, but I think there are far fewer now than before. You are correct though, the ball is already rolling.

Rally racing is awesome, if you could get into it for under 5grand like you can rock-crawling then I'd sell my truck and buy a WRX in a heart-beat.
