Can anyone in Tahoe lend a hand?

So I'm not normally one to ask for help, but I'm in a tough spot right now. I have a 98 cherokee that just developed a pretty bad knock this morning and I need some helping diagnosing it. Normally I could figure things out on my own, but I just moved back to South Lake last week and all my tools are in Southern California. I'm also on crutches right now with a broken ankle so that's another thing kind of hindering me. Any help is MUCH appreciated.

Just had the XJ checked out by a shop up here. It's a rod. $3500 for a new engine. Not sure what to do at this point.

at 3500, I would say wait until after your ankle heals, grab a working junkyard motor and swap it in. for 3500$ you could buy a dirt cheap 1000$ DD car for now if this is your DD (like terrances car in the for sale) and then buy a 500$ junkyard motor, and still have 2000$ more than you would have had, and have a cheap beater DD. Thats what I would do.

That's definitely an option, but at this point I don't even have 1k for a beater. It's looking like I'm going to have to sell her as is or part her out.

I posted an ad in the for sale section if anyone is interested.

I know this is a long shot but hey I'd be willing to drive up there and help you with an install. If you could get a few others to help...? Maybe someone has an old 4.0 laying around?

Are you sure it's not driveable? Mine has all sorts of noises and hell I'm still driving it until something pokes thru the side of the block, lol.

I appreciate the offer. That would be awesome if I could get some others and a used 4.0 together. I'll look into it and see what's up. Only problem is, I don't have a garage or any tools here, they are in storage in So Cal so I would have to find someone with the space and tools.

It's definitely driveable. The knock is insanely loud though.

Are you 100% sure you didnt crack the flex plate and that its a knock?

Not 100% sure. The shop guys were checking it out with their stethoscopes and said when they listened to the oil pan they could tell it was a rod.

Would anyone in the South Lake area be able to lend a hand with checking the flex plate? I can provide beer and pizza?

It was definitely a rod. Engine is completely frozen up now.

I'm trying to find a good used motor right now then I need to find someone who wants to make some cash helping with the install.
