Looking for either premitive or better sites for tent and or camper camping that have bodies of water, bathrooms, not a tourist trap?
Wheeling on labor day weekend and wondered what was out there for me and my son to stay at that has been good for others?

There is a place just up 77 (Taryall Rd.) right after Lake George and I think it's called Happy something. It sits right on the South Platte and it's really small. You could pull a camper in there. There might be others there but there's not many spots so even if it was full...it wouldn't be crowded. My wife says there are pit bathrooms there but I can't speak to that.

For bodies of water your best bet would probably be either 11 Mile or Spinney Reservoirs. Both of those have pit bathrooms but I would think they would draw more tourists than the other.

That's all I can think of right now that's right by me. If you want more info on teh first option let me know and I can check my GPS and get the name of the FR it's off.

I think i've been to that one, national forest campground?
if we're talking the same one my only beef was not enough tree coverage.

11 mile has some COOL spots on the hike in, but it's a long walk unless you rent a boat to ferry stuff in (spot 108 is neato)

Yeah...you're probably right there Phil. The sites are all to the right of the road and the road dead ends not much further down.

nice place, a little too open for me but quieter than some of the areas in 11 mile and not too far away.
