Camp Hale area

Does anyone know if theres still a good amount of open camping in the Camp Hale area? I know theres the fee camping on the south end. I was just wondering if anyone has been there since this year and if there has been some closed sites.

I know that last year they had signs up saying no camping in the unincorporated areas, of camp hale. But there's also camping just up the road on the road before and after the trial he's for holy cross

Good luck getting there from the Leadville side now... Gotta come up through Minturn. Hwy24 is closed "indefinitely" near Tennessee pass... Giant sink hole from a collapsed train tunnel under the road... Check the news for more info.

The sink hole is 100 ft deep!

Define "Camp Hale Area." We have camped up near the top of the McAllister Gulch trail (close to Ptarmigan Pass), which is technically in the area, but a ways from Camp Hale itself.

There is also stuff up near the top of No Name Road, which is just past Camp Hale if you are coming from the Leadville side. That leads into Yoder Gulch and there are some cool spots up there to throw down a tent.

yeah heard about the sink hole. I'll be camping IN camp hale at some spots. and running holy cross saturday. But Im suppose to run to BV to go on Carnage. Does anyone know a bypass/jeep trail around the sink hole so I dont have to go to I70 and around???
