Calling ALL Add-A-Leafers!

I had maybe a half-inch of sag. In the front, I'm running spacers (advertised as two-inch ones, but they're 2.25") and the stock rubber isolators. I'm going to remove the spacers and cut them down to match whatever I get in the back by removing the shims and bottom leaves.

Wow, some peoples AALs mustve been combined with old shocks.

Ive had my 3" AALs for 7 years, 3 years ago I put a 1.5" shackle on. It is the same height front and rear, and in the front I have 3" teraflex coils and 1 3/4" spacers.

You get a thumbs up on AAL's from me.

It is the Superlift full length AAL. I run 33"s on the above mentioned lift, with fairly minimal cutting.

Just an update. I removed the shims and bottom leaves, and it lowered the rear a bit, but really it just allowed more axlewrap. So then I took out the AALs and spacers altogether only to find that the passenger side is almost an inch lower now (probably from engine torque). Last night I put the bottom leaves back in and replaced the second leaves (just under the mains) with the AALs. Came out to 1.25" on the driver's side and 1" on the passenger's side. I'll be cutting the coil spacers to size later today. Overall, I'm super happy with this slight amount of lift because I have no vibes at all and before at just over 2" I was running around like a monkey performing all sorts of (bandaid) fixes trying to avoid doing an SYE. A lot of that was due to having a '99 with a 242.

Looks like I am in the minority (along with 1 or 2 others). I have been useing AAL's for about 5 years or more and have been very happy.

I originally put in a 3" rusty's long AAL and it worked great (I have probably done 5 others with that as well and they all are happy with it). Since then I have added a short 2" aal and a 1.5" lift shackle. I am still happy but realize that I could do much better and will be switching to a whole new pack (two aal's is a little less flex than desirable for me personally).

I think the issue that is more important to address is the condition of your main leaf in your current pack. I have found that most long aal's put additional stress on your main leaf at the end of the aal. Personally if I was to start with a fresh pack again and add a long aal, I would add a second main leaf right above it (giving you a main leaf, a second full length leaf and then the aal. Only to decrease the stress on that main leaf where the aal ends).

Obviously a new full pack would be nicer, but oftern a aal if a very economical way of getting the result you want if nothing more than temporary.

Just my .02

I'm happy with it now that I've fiddled with the spring packs enough. Because of the typical comments about AALs, I thought and hoped they would sag a bit. They didn't. Also, my AALs are so long that they extend to just under each eye of the main leaves, so if anything the mains are being supported more. Then again, maybe mine aren't really Rubicon Express AALs. I bought the BB used pretty cheap from Willys Overland here in Toledo. They told me the original owner only had the lift in for a month or two and couldn't take the vibes. I assumed it was an R.E. lift because the instructions I was given were from the RE6160 kit.

Anywho . . .
