CA Length Question...

The kit just arrived this afternoon and I started the install. I was little hung up installing the rear brake line but it was just a matter of time before the damn hard line lined up (near the frame).

I have to go get an 11/16's deep socket for the rear springs and some brake fluid and I'll be at it in the morning!

I'm planning on setting the UCA at 15" and the LCA at 16.5". This sound right to everyone? Also, any last minute tips?

Just to answer the question, Yes, I've searched and heard a couple of different answers to the CA length. I've looked at http://www.yuccaman.com/jeep/dw.html but the RE phone support person told me different so I want to ask the experts.

Thanks,
Rough

Might want to remind us what you're installing. What did RE tell you?

Sorry about that. I'm installing a RE 6130 4.5" Super-Flex kit with the adj. UCA and LCA. I also got the RE Hack-N-Tap SYE, new Driveshaft, RE 4* Steel Shims and I upgraded to the JKS QD's.

RE told me to put the uppers at 15.25 and the bottoms at 16.

Also, on the steel shims I can't quite figure out how they are supposed to attach since there is no way the pin from the spring pack is going to go through the hole in the shim.

Thanks again,

The RE shim is meant to bolt to the leaf pack. This is the best way and avoids them falling out later.

I would follow the recommended RE lengths and adjust as needed afterwards.

Thanks, I did that and I ended up having to use the grinder to make the pins fit into the holes on the axle. It worked thought.

Thanks again,

Oh yeah....the spring pin. Turns out RE is shipping a larger-than-stock spring pin and want you to drill out the spring perch so it fits. I put mine in a drill chuck and spun it while hitting the head with a grinder until it fit. I learned about the larger spring pin later.

On that same lift (RE6130), my uppers were stock length 15" and my lowers were 16.25" and an alignment fixed my DW (Dwath Wobble) issues. I threw that last part in there for the benefit of Jelly Role, who came in here yelling on post #1 that he was pissed at us for not telling him an exact fix for DW...

Yucca-Man,
I picked up that grinder/drill trick from your site. I worked like a charm. Now my only problem is the damn shock mount that broke. I have a friend coming over this evening to look at it and see if he can help fabbing a new one. I don't have the skills or equipment yet. I'm on to the front end and SYE now. I appreciate all the help and I would've had a very hard time without it.

About DW. I've already found an alignment shop that said if I bring in the numbers they will align it for ~$70.

I think you (or someone) was referred to it in another post, but check out Gojeeps site regarding those shock mounts. This would be a good time to relocate them higher.

You still bent about that. Man, it is like the Oprah Show. Everyone with such touchy feelings. By the way, smart guy, longer LCA's aren't necessary with a 2" lift. There is enough room to shim them to get the caster set back to 8 deg. I also have a new adjustable track bar, and OME stabilizer...guess what genius...still f'in wobbles. What do you have for me now?

Holy jeebus...do yo usee that little bar at the top of the post? For yours it says "8 minutes ago" and for my post that you're referring to it says "2 weeks ago"...talk about your friggin' Oprah addicts

Hi, I'm new to the site. I am building a kit for my XJ. I had a 3.5" on it before that I took off and now i'm going 4.5". i found the chart on here where it shows the CA lengths and before i start fabbing, i wanted to make sure that the length of the ca is given in "center of eyelet to center of eyelet" format. thank you very much

A simple "Yes" to your last question. There are a bazillion different size joints out there, so out-to-out would be a useless dimension. Good luck on the build!
