Hey guys
I'm building a new motor!! 418 CID windsor based SBF
It's been over 10yrs since I built a motor. If anyone wants to help(SO I DON'T SCREW IT UP) The bottom and will hold up to 1000HP :worship:
But I'm only going to 500hp :D So if anyone can :helpme: a brother out I would be greatful and give you  and some BBQ

coincidence. I am about to undertake building my first motor. 5.0EFI from my 87 Saleen. I am not sure yet if I am going to stroke it or not. One of my cylinders is damaged and will need to be take to .020. That means new pistons. At that point, all I will need is crank and rods ($600) to get 331 or 347 stroker. Well then I will need bigger heads and intake and custom cam, and well, $10K later we have a nice engine. Gary talked me out of the big stroker tonight.

but I think you should go for it. Just make sure you invest in some good AFR heads and the appropriate injector/MAF/tune if it's an EFI

this guy brian from www.adperformance.com seems to be a good knowledgable vendor about the windsor stuff.

don't know if you have this George Reid book or not, but I have one of his other ford books and it has very detailed info:

http://www.amazon.com/Build-Big-Inc...9316628?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1174629752&sr=1-2

I have been reading up on

www.corral.net

www.stangnet.com

If you really want a stroker, you might not save any money than buying a shortblock from www.coasthigh.com rather than building your own, especially once you factor in machine work. I have been weighing this and have decided that I would like the experience of building my own engine. I mean, hey how bad can I screw it up ;)

I have been doing home work on SBFtech.com,corral.net anda few others
I bought a $2000 stroker kit for $1400 and a block with the machine work for $1300 Here is the combo so far:
Eagle 14126 competition rotating assembly
AFR 205 heads
Edelbrock VICTOR JR. 351-W
Comp cam 250/254 .671/.673 lift
Crane 1.6:1 7/16 stud rockers
Holley 850cfm HP series carb

This is going in to a 68 cougar 3200 lbs
10.7:1 compression,automatic, 4:11 gears, 28" tire, 3500 stall
looking for high 10,s or low 11's

very nice, indeed. does the 351W block have girdles for it? I see a bunch of 5.0 guys running those. Also, huge lift batman! Did you get springs matched to the cam? Your valve train is going to take quite the beating.

The AFR's come set up from the factory for a .670 solid roller :D
I called Comp gave them the spring specs and other info so they could grind me a cam

SBF?

Are you gonna change your username?

Billy :D

Looking at those cam specs- is it a roller? what's the specs for your springs? They gotta be pretty stout for that kind of grind. Did they install 10 degree locks/retainers on the springs? If I lived a little closer I'd probably be over there too much just so I could help piece that together. Sounds like it's gonna be a pretty sweet motor when it's done.

I'm having a custom cam made by Jay Allen at camshaft innovations. When it's done he will set up the heads to match the cam :)

I did something similar a few years back. I got an over-the-counter Comp Cams 292 hyd cam instead of a custom grind but had my heads ported to best match the profile of the cam. But that was in a much milder (.555 in lift 244 dur @ .050) street driven BBC than what your puttin together. Keep us posted so us motor heads can wallow in self pitty wishing it was us putting it together.:D
