bubba rope

Looks pretty cool. I dig the rope over the flat style. I just bought a new tow rope.. 12,000 pound, 30'. I've had one my old man gave me with my first car.. It's seen better days. I retired it to my lady's car in case she should ever need it.

May be moving the 12,000 pounder to the D21 if that rope is reasonably priced. :D

/edit Those are pricey.. My goodness. The Murdoch's special is going to have to work for me @ 30 bucks for the time being.

Like this trail building tool I saw for adventure dirt bike riding the other day. Thing is sweet though, let me see if I can find it.

Thing is sweet, but if you want the whole 9 yards it's like 600 bucks.. Putting it on my Christmas list for single track woods adventuring on the dirt scoots/mountain bike.

I'm a sucker for blue and silver billet aluminum. Multi use without compromising the integrity of a single tool for 3 others... I wanna see it do some work... I like it though.

your link doesn't work for me, sir?

i tried some trail work once with an entrenching tool. it took a HUGE chunk of meat from my pinkie on my right hand.
damn grrrrr it still has nerve damage and that was in 1986 !!!

Damn.. 86.. I wasn't even born. :D

It's a Toyota something that isn't offered stateside obviously.

Thought it was a Nissan Patrol at first, I'm not entirely sure though.. Thing's pretty rad.

There's diesel versions of the XJ across the pond too. Same with Nissan Hardbody's (D21's)... There's all kinds of diesel stuff over there cause their petrol prices are out of control. I wanna say it's something like in US like $11/Gal..

That's one expensive tow strap! Holy Molly

for me quality recovery gear is important. new products are cool as well.
and many guys will drop big bucks on big tires and lift kits but not recovery gear.
is 120 on a bombproof recovery rope really that outrageous?
just offering perspective here.

and my son bought me the ARB strap, and i thought that was cool for my kid for my birthday. so i might get him this rope as a gesture of thanks, plus then we both have some minimum recovery gear.

i was looking into more recovery ropes. here is what i found--
pipe up if you have used any of these--

and for obvious reasons, any kind of recovery requires solid points to connect to. and real world common sense and understanding the uses and weakness of whatever material you are working with, and some basic knowledge of the ratings of the forces involved.
i do think these ropes have a place in the bag. but they also have special
handling procedures that one must adhere to. i was surprised at the variety of prices among the makers i have found here by google. and i knew from prior research about the splicing of ropes. if splicing can be trusted with a ship mooring line... if done right and to long held standards it should be fine for a recovery/winch rope.

I use the Masterpull one. The difference in pulling someone out with a kinetic rope versus the a strap is like night and day. With the rope, there is no hard jerk, just a nice smooth pulling motion. With a strap, you're lucky if you don't give or get whiplash if you have to use the skinny pedal at all.

The price difference isn't even worth worrying about between the two. Get a kinetic rope, you won't regret it.

thanks Mike !

Kris' splicing (the last link) has some very interesting splicing videos in it. a sharp knife and a bic pen body is all he uses...and a tape measure. funny, but rope and splicing has been around a LONG time. lots of technology and complicated math in there !
very cool stuff

That's awesome. The kinda relationship my old man and I have seems similar.

He didn't get to spend a lot of time with me when I was growing up and he seems to be trying to make up for it now that I'm in my mid 20's. Better late than never I suppose. He's trying to get on the wagon to build something to wheel. It's hard to get the guy to part with his hard earned money though. I think he sees this isn't another one of my passing phases and this is something I'm really passionate about. We used to ride motorcycles when I was a kid. But in his old age (53 LoL) and his firefighting and getting ready to start collecting his second retirement I don't think getting hurt is in the cards for him right now. But he's like me. He has to get out of town for adventures. I really hope he builds a rig.

Either way. Glad you two have a good relationship. My old man and I didn't see eye to eye for a really long time. I'm happy that we do now.

well it is not all puppies and bunnies and sunshine....but we try. he and I need to get out and 4wheel and do some shooting :)

While I still rely on the flat style tow strap, I would look into the Master Pull stuff. They have a proven track record, and stand behind our sport.

Several of the guys working there are/were NAXJA members, and I think they are even forum supporters. Seem to recall them giving a discount as well.

Or, Im sure you can find their stuff on YsoSeriousOffroad.
