Broke it AGAIN! This time on video.

Had a GREAT time getting sand blasted in the desert today in the Jeep with friends. VERY windy, blowing sand, broke the Jeep AGAIN, but still smiling and had a blast. Video evidence follows.

The rear pinion u-joint & straps let go on me again. This time it did not break the bolts off in the yoke, so the fix will be cheap and easy. A benefit of workin in auto parts. :)

I am now considering a new yoke with u-bolts, but am concerned about moving that "fuse" to elsewhere in the drivetrain. Thoughts?

I am also amazed that the front D30 has held up to 2 years of abuse with 35's, small u-joints, stock shafts. And had drug me home twice now in just front wheel drive.

This is a few of us taking a break from the wind:

And Tom's Jeep:

Thanks to Tom's video, I have a better idea of why I had the same break twice this month. The Revolver Shackles seem to be letting the rear pinion angle climb too high. I have never been happy with them, now I have an even better reason to get rid of them.

Toms Jeep coming up a twisty climb. The video does not do it justice, the long arms make it look easy.

Quick vid of me a few min. before I broke it

Nope, look at the video. Watch the pinion point to the sky. Thw two yokes touched. The only thing that kissed a rock was my sliders.

Straps saved more damage, in this case. Worked as a good fuse.

It almost sounded like you kissed it on a rock?

Either way I would upgrade to a u-bolt yoke.

I always hated the straps.

Glenn, pitching the revolvers is a great idea. I seen them cause more harm than good on several rigs. Glad you were able to pinpoint the cause of your breakage.

I carry spare u-joints, straps and bolts, would have been a easy fix on the trail assuming you can get the bolts out. I'm surprissed your not running a SYE?

I was going to ask if it was the pinion twisting up. Will you go to the relocation brackets or just find a different shackle?

I carry them as well. However, it was blowing 60 or so mph. Laying under the Jeep, or drive it home? I chose drive it home. :)

*ting*ting*ting* "there went the shaft"

Wait, isn't that supposed to be attached to the jeep?! :) That sucks!

I agree. It was in my plans for later this year. Will be moving that time table up a bit. :)
Heading in to work in a few to pick up a u-joint and u-bolt kit.

I'm with Jeff on this one. Take the revolvers off and toss them as far as you possibly can. Way more trouble than they are worth

Wow, I haven't seen revolvers in years, they'd look great hanging on your wall.

I'm with the crowd to suggest the U-Bolt yoke (and I still need to do it to my axles).

They are gone. Took it to a buddies shop to use the lift and drill out the yoke to use u-bolts. I just wanted to drill them out, and I would install everything at home. I had the NAPA u-bolt kit, the HELP u-bolt kit, new u-joint, and two new Chevy 1/2 ton shackles in the truck.

Talking to my friend about my plans to remove the revolvers and install the chevy bits, he asked how much I want for the revolvers. Keep in mind, this is the same guy that has been out wheeling with me BOTH times the revolvers caused the carnage they did. I told him :you swap them out, you can have em". He had his techs swap my shackles, drill the yoke, install the u-joint and button it all up for me. All in exchange for the damned revolvers.

Great deal for me. Hope he likes em. He has seen them in action and is impressed with how well they did on my jeep... but has also seen me limp home twice because of them, so I do not feel bad for him if they break his junk too. LOL.
