Im not a jeepspeed or a go fast through dunes but trying to build my xj to meet stock KOH class. With that said im asking here on the jeepspeed, prerunner and competition fourm as i think some one may be able to help me. As part of the requirements i need a two rear facing lights one amber as a dust light and one blue as a collision light to signal im a slower class vehicle. I have a 4" round LED amber light. I'd like a simlar style and size for a blue light but have not been able to find them. Every where i ask i get the same anwser and look. "having blue lights ar illegal and are for law enforcement and ems personnel". I understand that but this is not my DD and would only be used for the race our out in the desert to let others know my xj is SLOW. any help would be great.

Here is the set up now. I want the blue light where the 55watt hella is in the picture.

Crazy jim thanks, i figured they would but not sure...ill be sure to check them out next time in corona, Ca as im currently stationed in Az. Maybe they will be open fri or sat this week when im down for thanksgiving...

that one youve got, the LED one... is USELESS in the dust... its just not bright enough. Ive got a larger rectangular halogen light that absolutely puts it to shame. I moved the LED one into my engine bay...

Our race car currently has some regular slim KC lights. They have snap on covers, one with an amber cover and one with a blue cover.

FWIW, I am prepping this car for the 2012 BITD series and the rules now say it must have an LED amber but it doesn't say the blue light must be LED. KC is providing us with new amber and blue LED lights however their blue LED light won't be available until the end of the year.

Not sure if it would work for you, but look up "color shieldz". Its a stick on laminate coating for the 500 series, come in blue, smoke, fog yellow, and clear.

Any reasoning why BITD would require an LED dust light instead of Halogen? I'm assuming because less chance of failure, but most LED's aren't as bright as a halogen dust light.

None that I can think of. I don't think they thought it out well or actually looked into the technology before making a decision.

Called Kar-Tek 130 for the one with the stud style mounting and 100 (ish) for the other one as just the light no housing. Any where else that may have them cheaper?

You say you're building to meet KOH stock class, so does that mean your racing in KOH? Or are you going to race some of the Dirt Riot races? The blue light is only required if you race in a BITD race, the Ultra4 races and the Dirt Riot races don't require a blue light.

I want to race it in the every mans challenge in the stock class and from what i read on the ultra 4 rule book i thought i had to have a blue light.... but if not thanks for the heads up

Mckenzies probably carries them also

So, do you want to race, or are you entered? Just wondering if we'll be competing against each other. :)

6.2.16.4.3 A rearward facing blue light, in addition to the rearward facing amber light, must be installed on all vehicles participating in the Best in the Desert American off-road Ultra 4 racing series. This blue light is intended to identify slower moving classes of vehicles to faster vehicles approaching from the rear.

Do you get a lot of glare with the lights on and glass in the hatch? I would think that would be distracting if not blinding to the driver, assuming you plan to run it like that.
