Big Al's Bloggity Blog

Almost ready for the big swap. I'm just waiting on my pcm, new control arm drop brackets and fender flares. Until then I'm just cleaning up the Jeep and fixing all the little bs.

Power window and door lock issues.

Hopefully this weekend it will be on the road!

damn way to go man! thats a boat load of work to get done...

Yeah it's kind of retarded now that I'm pot committed. Still worth it though if you consider the trade off and what I'll end up with. Wouldn't be worth it in any other circumstance.

Not sure if anyone is looking for parts but if I get enough interest I might consider a part out of whitey, my 87. Otherwise I'll sell it complete and running.

Specs will be 4.5 suspension lift (no blocks or what ever), good shocks, D30 and 8.25 open/open with 3.55s, custom front winch bumper, roof rack with high lift mount, in the last 3 years it's had new engine, tranny (Peugeot sorry, but works great) new rear DS non SYE, fully adjustable control arms with drop brackets welded, nice 31x10.5s on soft 8s, RE HD track bar nicely welded and more...honestly it's been a great truck and all some one would need to do is buy a rear lunch box and it would be a great all around rig. It's also got a carb legal cowl intake, C101 delete, I checked all connections in wire loom when engine was pulled, most sensors replaced, bran new distributor, tested and flow matched injectors and so on...it's honestly really been gone though. It's seen Moab, PNW almost to Canada, a lot of Nevada, down south, blah blah blah. I'll miss it but the new green Jeep will get its turn next.

I'll have AW4 parts, extra NP231, two sets of leafs for bastard packing, possible rear ZJ disk conversion...I'll post up in the for sale section after I get greenie on the road.

I might be interested in the motor in the 87.

Annoying...suffered my first set back today. Got the new pcm from brown santa and it's no good. The flash seems correct because the Jeep runs with out throwing a tranny code like it did but this pcm must be bad because it says my LDP circuit is no good and same with my o2 heaters. I'll call them tomorrow, on a side note it confirmed the auto pcm is bad too because it's got a dead miss fire on cylinder 6 and it goes away with the new one. The injector driver circuit took a crap so it's getting no fuel. This is retarded but I'll forge on...friggn annoying to say the least. On a good note I made a temp shift boot until I can find a manual one from a 97 and newer.

Brain storming

I was able to trim out and snap in the donor trim piece, the boot fit like a champ. Luckily I've got a fresh boot now that I know this worked.

I just want to get all the funny computer stuff squared away so I'm comfortable swapping in the good stuff.

I might be interested in the spare 231 if its a 21 spline

Yeh, I have a renix

Only had an hour after work to do crap so I removed shocks, front and rear sway bars and front axle and control arms. I'm a long way away. Also found out my XJ is a federal emissions vehicle and my pcm was programmed for a CA emissions car. Sent the pcm back and I should be ready to rock with no check engine light when it returns. I always re learn to never assume things...damn it.

Got all new hardware, flywheel and a Luk clutch kit.

Why not, might do the water pump too.

Crap...I'm so far...

Hopefully this weekend it will be running, then I can finish up any bs early next week, get it smogged and then rip it.

A taste of what's to come.

This is how my old one is going to sit, just need to remove the rear bumper and sliders, align it and post it for sale.

Can't wait to get out in my new junk! I still have new fender flares and lots of trimming to do. Hopefully it will be road worthy in another week or so.

Forgive me from asking what's probably a dumb question... But how are you getting your key out of the ignition on the automatic to manual swap. I was under the impression you could only remove the key when in "Park". Cause I'm having trouble locating a manual trans steering column for mine and would like to see how you addressed it. Mine has a lever I push down to remove my key.

Damn I didn't even think of that. I might have lucked out because my ignition locks but I can take the key out in any position. Not sure what's messed up but my 87 has been like that for 6 years and it's a manual seeing column. I always thought that was normal for the old ones though but wasn't sure.

If you look at the interior shot with the shifter you can notice two cables, one for the tranny and the other one that goes up to the steering column. I think if you remove the cable the key lock will always see that it's in park. I'll have to check this out and make sure it won't cause issues. Good looking out!

Sorry if that's not clear. My steering wheel and ignition key lock normally BUT once unlocked with the key I can remove the key while running. If I turn the car off I just need the key to start it again if it was turned to the lock position. My 87 and 00 are both broken like that.

Thing is looking good alex.

Thanks dude, its a friggn slow process. Swapping all the big stuff is no biggie...its all the little projects like the center console, the auto to 5 speed t case linkage, the clutch slave linkage, all the little BS that needs to be custom fit. Hell, I got these beautiful new fender flares. I'm going to mock them up, trim for a better fit on the body lines, sand with 1200 then wash and paint trim black...oh btw you still need to actually trim the car too, then rivet and drill and repeat 4 times. Thats a weekend project in it self.

I'm hoping the Luk will be nice, I use them a lot in German and European cars at work. It looks nice!

Here is a sneak peak of the fender flares with the 33s at ride height.

In the last photo you can see a bit where I took the side trim off and the fender is a little chipped up by the door. I was thinking of masking off from the top of where the trim was and from there down doing some kind of textured black paint or Hurkeyliner or something...any ideas?
