Best of Craigslist

Nah, not my type. Has the crazy paint thing goin for it, but it doesn't have any nice parts to make it worth while to salvage :D

Definitely among the cleanest MJ's in Colorado. This is Arvin's truck. He's a 70 year old retired roofer that has been an MJ enthusiast long before there were any clubs for 'em. He's restored quite a few and this is one of 2 of his "keepers". Well worth the money in my opinion. Someone will get one helluva nice MJ. I got my black '91 MJ from him.

nice, just emailed my sister and bro-in-law, as this looks like just what they're wanting -- thanks for the heads up, Troy, as well as the background on the seller!

That's a pretty cool idea, people always toss around the V8 SWAP idea, why not put a smaller yet still more powerful motor in there - hell turbo or super charge it and you'd have a comparable setup.

A couple of car manufacturers are doing that already - Audi went from their V8 S4 to a supercharged 6, comparable HP and better torque.

Might be something I would like to do in the future...

Yeah, the 3.4 swap isn't a new idea - lots of '84-'86 XJ guys have swapped in the 3.4 from a 90's Camaro or Firebird because it's bolt in (motor mounting and the bell housing pattern). It's the fuel system and some electrical that has to be figured out. Most go with a carbureated set up, but a rare few work out the TBI. This is the first MPFI set up I've seen.

Cuz there's no replacement for displacement.

Seriously. Why go through the time, effort and expense just to end up with 6 cylinders. A guy would be better off with a stroker......yeah, I said it.

I can tell you exactly why........ compare the parts list needed to do a 3.4L swap to your 5.3 swap..... then compare the money spent to do these swaps.

HUGE difference. But there will indeed be a HUGE difference in power output.

And, I can guarantee a 3.4L swap won't require half a garage wall dedicated to wiring diagrams and specifications....... :moon:

For someone with an ailing early V6 XJ looking for a cheap alternative that puts newer parts availability and better power into the equasion, the 3.4L swap is a very good choice.

For that matter, the 4.3 Vortec is an easier swap than the 5.3.

It was only 1/4 of the wall and it sure beat the monkey-snot out of paying $600 to Howell for harness....fooker! AND...I enjoyed doing the wiring.

:moon::moon:

We looked a 3.4L for the first rig we bought for Daniel (84 Pioner) and the dollars needed just didn't make it a feesable project back then.

4.3L is not bad engine, but for a little bit more coin (very little) a 5.3 or 6.0L can be installed.

I hear ya Frank, but you and I are talking apples and oranges. Not everyone wants to replace their crappy 2.8L with a ground pounding, pinion snapping V-8 no matter the cost difference - be it large or small.

I was merely commenting that it's a really great, relatively simple and easily sourced replacement/swap to keep a worthy early model XJ on the road while keeping the stock trans/t-case/drive lines and axles.

Oh, and :bs:....... half a wall easily when you include the Frank Scribblez all around the diagrams........ :D

Those scribbles had nothing to do with wiring.
That was just stick-girl porn.......

I don't draw too well.

Ugh....... Really? It makes much more sense now........ but....... I feel so........ dirty now.

:D

Yeah.....I was missing a few "schematics" after your last visit.

Yeah, I got a little ornery with an eraser.......... I had no idea I was erasing your erotica. :shhh:

Meh....I just just figured you needed some framed art that you didn't need to hold up with one hand.....

OMG......... urk....... um........ so I think I now understand how your schematics were stuck on the garage wall........ without a staple or thumb tack in sight......... :puke:

:D
