Here's one of mine with 265/70R15 Grabbers with stock suspension.....No rubbing in normal street use other than full lock turns.....I was asking about a 2 inch lift because this won't cut it off road.
If you want to go Free dont lift it at all maybe trim as needed. If you want to go super cheap then grab 3 extra stock isoloators per side(6 total, maybe 50 cents each at a JY, spend like 3$?) from the junkyard, or buy 2" pucks for the front, or even better some used ZJ v8 coils and one stock isolator per side. Then for the rear grab an old set of stock leaves and cut the eyes off the main and put it below your main. If thats not enough grab some used 3/4" or some MJ shackles. The MJ shackles only net like 1/2" though. for shocks , you can use your rear sway bar mounts for upper BPEs to get an extra 1/2" or so out of the upper mounts, and do something similiar for the front, or find some cheap used shocks 0-2 lift shocks . Dont really have to worry about brakelines or sway bars up front at 2" but you can grab 2wd 3/4" GMC 1995 pickup lines and they are like 6" longer and only 14$ each at autozone. 1996 dodge dakota rear lines are like 20$ and 6" longer. sway bars just make homebrew discos with wing nuts for the front, and ditch the rears(esp since you are using the mounts for upper BPEs)
Actually the xj will and can do more than most stock SUV's and if the tires rub then just get spacers or wheels with more BS or trim. It's all about knowing what to do. I'm at 2.5"-3" lift and 31" and I'm trimmed and bumps topped enough to do 33"-34" tires if I wanted. Some hockey pucks and some trimming and you would be golden.

You seem to assume that lifting alone will eliminate your rubbing problem. In all likelihood you will still rub at full compression with a reasonable lift that is proportional to your tire size unless you bumpstop and/or trim (as others have said).
