Bar pin eliminators?

can someone please explain to me what these are/do and what benefits there are to having them? I am lifting my 94 xj soon and will be replacing the shocks. I want to know if these are somethign i should be installing as well. thanks

JKS sells a "bar pin eliminator and it replaces the little bar with the ears on each end that bolts to the unibody. The piece is a bar and two square blocks held inplace with crush sleves(I think that's what they'rew called) Anyway, the bar goes through the shock eye and the square bloks are on each end and mount to the body. It makes it a ton easier to replace shocks and work on them. I have a set on my XJ, YJ, and WJ and love them. They also add apx. 1-1-1/2 to the shock. They can be used in the front also. Installing bar pin eliminators greatly increases the availability of shocks for your jeep. Once they are installed, you can use any shock with regular eyes. All you need to do is cycle your suspension and measure the shortest distance and longest distance between the mounts and take those measurements to a shock dealer. They can then figure out what will be the optimum length for your shocks.

No idea why Crunch is saying that. Unless its intentional SPOBI just for fun. BPE's will also get rid of that annoying 'clunk' that goes along with bar pins. Elimination is a good thing. I agree with Crunch that you don't need to spend money on them though. They can be easily made for pennies.

I've got them, and they got rid of all the popping coming from my front end, which seems to be worth it. All that popping used to freak me out since it felt like I was about to go into a DW, but now with none of that, I can drive with more peace of mind.

I plan on making them out of the rear sway bar to leaf mounts, since my bar is long gone. If I can find some more at a junkyard I'll have enough for front and rear BPE's, and all I'll have to buy is the bolts to go through them. It's a lot cheaper than buying them....and easy too.

nhrocker id love to see some kind of writeup on that. I keept mine when i removed the swaybar because i figured i could use them for something. How would i do it?

FYI, not an ideal solution-- it may be cheaper, but it rotates the shock mount 90 degrees.
crawl under there and take a look and imagine the path of the rear axle while flexing...

Why would it rotate the mount 90*? You can weld them on in any direction you want. If you still want them bolted on, then just weld them onto a small piece of steel with holes drilled to line up with the stock bar pin bolt holes, then bolt them on with that. If you read the links I posted, both mention the 90* issue and how to deal with that by welding them on. You're right though, just bolting them on is not a good idea. I'll be welding mine on so I won't have to worry about it.

Unless you move your axle mounts out of the way...then you can always do something like a WAR101 (#1 on this page: http://www.warriorproducts.com/catalog_new/pages/UNIVERSAL SHOCK MOUNT/Universal_Shock_Mount.html)

Then it would work just fine and your lower mounts won't drag.
