BA-10 Peugeot to AX-15

The pin adapter can be had from Advanced Adapter, or a well equiped hydraulic hose shop. I can't remember the exact part number from AA, but call them and they will know what you are talking about. If that doesn't help drop me a email and I'll dig through my notes and get the correct pn. Good Luck

Ok here is where I’m at, I have the holes drilled for the 99 TJ master to go into the firewall. Its tight but I think it will work. I’ve been stressin over getting the hydraulics to work. I couldn’t get the stock TJ stuff into position because I couldn’t feed the line thru the tight spots with the slave attached, but today I pushed the pin out on the fitting on the Master cylinder and I feel confident that it will go back together fine. so all I have to do is weave the line thru the tight spaces and rehook it up and bleed the system. I think it would have been easier with an XJ master and slave because the line goes over the brake booster but I have this stuff and I think it will work. I may get the stuff from AA and redo it at some point in the future but if this works I may not mess with it. Thanks for all the help at long last this is coming together.

Just in case anyone out there is interested in doing this swap, and doesn't yet have an AX-15 trans, I have one. I did this swap on my son-in-laws XJ and then he rolled it a year later. I have the AX-15 trans and t-case (out of the same vehicle) with about 100k on them, a one year old factory slave/throwout bearing, clutch, and pressure plate, and a tranny mount that is modified so the crossmember can stay in the same location.

BTW, the factory internal slave lasts much longer than any of the aftermarket ones do......stick to the Mopar parts.

3. It works! The CJ pilot bushing fits fine as far as dia. goes. It is a little longer than stock, but doesn't interfere with the input shaft at all. Personally, I like the bushing better than the stock bearing setup. My Jeep always squealed under hard acceleration with the old BA-10/15 tranny and stock bearing. I thought my input shaft was going out. When I tore it apart the stock bearing was powered and a local tranny shop suggested I go with the solid bushing, which solved the squealing problem.

Woody, I'm in the process of replacing my clutch in my 98 XJ, would you recommend the CJ pilot bushing replacement instead of the stock pilot? If so, what year CJ?

If your not changing the tranny you wont need a different bearing but you may want a new one if you have it apart anyway.

Sorry, I can't say for sure on a '98. My AX-15 tranny came out of a '97, so the inside dia of the pilot bushing should be the same, but I don't know about the out side dia of the bushing, on the flywheel side. The pilot bushing is from a mid 70's CJ with the 304 V-8. If I remember correctly I asked my local Jeep dealer for a '75 CJ pilot bushing. One thing for sure though, I don't care for the bearing idea for the input shaft Jeep uses, or used, I don't know what they use on the later models. The clutch dust just eats up the bearing IMHO. Good Luck.

This is what I did when mating a 99 TJ AX-15 to my 88 MJ.
We are using the CJ bushing as an ADAPTER bushing. The new tranny has a different diameter and nothing from any year stock XJ will work. (And vise-versa, The CJ bushing will not work with any stock XJ application.) Bearings suck anyway. Mine was pulverized and it was a real pain to get the remains out.

I used a two dollor 1/4"-5/16" pressure fitting to adapt my stock master cylinder to my new TJ external slave line. Works great!

I built my own exhaust mount on my sutom crossmember to hold up my custom tube. Not sure how applicable this is to those of you using the stock stuff, but maybe it'll spark an idea or two.

And this is how I adapted the TJ tranny to my MJ linkage:

Oh, and I don't have a functional speedo yet. I gauge my speed using the tach.

More pics are at the photo site in my sig.
Jeep on!

I also got my AX-15 in (finally) I ended up using all the new style hydraulics. It‘s nice to have my clutch working again after driving it with no clutch almost 5 months.

I seem to be missing an adaptor that goes from the tranny mount to the tranny. The two holes in the mount are farther apart than the four in the tranny so there is no chance that the mount will work with either set. If anyone has the part I’m describing I could sure use it. Or if anyone knows that my assumption that I’m missing a part is incorrect… I could also use pictures of this area if anyone has any.

Bronco,
I have the plate from the tranny to a 99 tj cross member. Its from the same tj that you got the transfer case from. I'm not sure it will work with an xj crossmember but you can have it if you want it.
Dave
PS I hope the tcase has worked out well for you

Thanks Dave I’d like to give it a shot. Do you have Pics of it? Your stuff is working like a dream I wish I could say the same for the tranny. I waited three months for it and it leaks like the CIA and it’s missing a part. One thing though do you have the boot that covers the slip yoke?

I have the boot, it is on the TJ rear driveline at the moment. I can see if I can get a picture of the bracket. It may take a few days as we are headed off for several days to Moab and other Southern Utah areas in the morning.
Dave

Moab! You lucky doge! Is the TJ driveline in use on a TJ or could you Take the boot off and send it?
