Axle wrap?

I broke 5 in the same fashion. By the end of it my leaf spring perches were rounded. I chose to 4 link it instead of fixing perches and building an anti wrap bar. Your list should take care of the problem.

axle wrap and bad pinion angles/bad driveshaft angles.

traction bars can help that.

Yeah, I tore a perch from the axle tube actually the second to last time. The weld held though, it was the tube that didn't. Tore a hole in the axle tube.

Ruffstuff also makes a traction bar. I've been looking at it, since I appear to have enough wrap to bend a shock shaft, when the shock body came in contact with the truss.

I had problems in the past with heavily arched five leaf packs, but no issues with the Nationals. Maybe try and duplicate the setup. Build a bastard pack and add leaves of the right length properly clamped together. Mine have ten thin, flat leaves. There are no long unsupported spans(I always thought axle wrap started there) - they are stacked like an inverted pyramid. They flex and ride nicely too.

that's what is "supposed" to happen....the metal around the weld is the weakest part.

what size spring perches? how tall off the axle? what brand leaf springs?

Axle wrap is normal for a leaf spring installation. XJs are more susceptible to this as they are "spring over". If you look at the physics of the thing, you can see that the torque transmitted into the spring is magnified by the spring placement. The only way to stop it is to install traction bars.

Unfortunately, every set that is commercially available reduces ground clearance. Until and unless someone comes up with a better way, that is the trade off. Preserve the spring at the cost of both ground clearance and noise in the cabin. Most, if not all, of the systems out in the world use spherical rod ends. Now, I have nothing against SREs but they do transmit noise.

Another option is what I use. Iron Rock Offroad 5.5" leaf springs. They have the military wrap and I have no spring wrap problems, and it's a direct swap, no welding or fabrication required. And you can get it with an optional extra leaf if your rig is really heavy.

I've been using them for 3 1/2 years with no sag yet and I am not easy on them.

Those are tempting. I had not heard of those.

traction bar is a pretty good idea...when i had my s-10 i had a roadmaster active suspension it was awsome and adjustable...http://www.activesuspension.com/

they dont make it for jeep but im sure there is a length that would work....

Deavers or nationals. If you get a get a traction bar you'll need to burn it in with something bigger than your 135. Figure out what you want to do, your junk has almost as much dust as kevin's

What about those over sized perches meant to deter axle wrap? I think it's either ruffs tough or serious.
Those help but will not eliminate axle wrap. I would kinda like to build a torque arm that also serves to protect the driveshaft. I would maybe attach the front end to the crossmember just under the SYE.
