autocross

With some prep, a stock height XJ could do SCCA Solo comps. But if you want to go in the dirt, SCCA also does Rally, and Rally-Cross. Think Solo comp on dirt! It is fun and easy to get into.

no itll be 5x4.5, im only going to run the 60 outters for the brakes, and because i think i can get a set for free. otherwise i might just stick w/ stock 2wd outers and brake brackets

I know a local that ran auto-X and rally-X events in his GC 5.9Limited and won a few of them. You can run them but you have to prove that you are a well controlled driver and the vehicle is safe.

I am going to run my 99 with 3" of lift in a rally cross this spring.

Could it be done? Yeah, with serious modifications......

Holy smokes ... I totally forgot about these vehicles!

I've seen some bizzare vehicles at autocrosses. There are people that run pickups (Tacomas, Rangers, S10s), but I've never seen a Jeep -- XJ or otherwise -- at an event.

sure run a truck like ..... a s10 with a 383 mounted in the bed and a c5 vette suspension. :shhh:

If i was you i would buy a cheap car that handles well, like a mid 1980s to late 90s bmw 325 or 318, honda civic/ crx, mazda rx7, a dodge glh (or clone), something that you can get for a song and thrash.

I dont think i would have much fun if i wasnt competitive, or had to spend a fortune to get out of last place.

For me half the fun would be trying to finid a semi-legal way out of last place. Didn't somebody on here run their XJ Sport on some sort of paved race track event in leu of his SVO Mustang with 30x9.5/15 mudders and do pretty well (as in not last)?

someone did i forget who ... he said he TRASHED his sidewalls and his tires were ruined.

There's an event in the Bay Area called the 24 Hours of LeMons that I'm going to be running next year in a 2wd 5-speed 4.0 XJ. I've got a pretty simple formula in mind: Lots of sway bar and as low as possible with as much crap torn out of the interior as possible. Oh, and a lock-rite for good sideways action. :) I think it could actually be competitive.

I tried to get something put together for this year's event, but just didn't have the time. I did this to keep me inspired, though:

P.S. If you have to ask about the colors, you won't get it. :D

Theres an article about the 24 Hours of Lemons in February Car and Driver. I believe it was won by a 1982 Toyota Corolla entered by Road and Track. Its certain death for a car. Car and Driver had their car rolled on its roof by the crowd and went on to finish the race with no front bumper and hood for cooling purposes:laugh2:

I think I'd do it in the AMC Red/White/Blue scheme or get a Briarwood and leave the "wood" in place
