Has anyone ever fabbed a front independent suspension for an XJ, or any jeep for that matter?

I don't think anyone would want to ruin an XJ by doing so.

Ironically JEEP is the one fabbing ifs for Jeeps.

Independent suspensions have no business being on vehicles used for serious off roading. I don't see too much of an issue with ifs on strictly road cars though.

The MAIN reason I suggested the AMC eagle in my last few posts is because of a much lower center of gravity not the absense of a solid axle.

Also a stroker swap should be straight forward with that type of vehicle.

no IFS that i know of, im working on a 2" drop 2wd front axle tho, cad pics are up on jeep forum in the street section

hmmmm.. i like the cut of your jib.

I'm suprised there hasn't been more thought put into this.......

My ideas;
early 4.0l HO (greater power/ weight possibilities)
'97 and later Cop springs and Limited swaybars, use shocks as permited by sactioning body.
242 t-case and a trac-loc rear end
factory 16x7 or 15x8 wheels with appropriate tires
Strip weight that's up high on the unibody.

I like the idea of a buildup for similar competition, especially if you were to be competing with other vehicles that are basically the same. That said though, the following is taken directly out of the SCCA 2006 Rulebook:

Unstable vehicles with a high center of gravity and a narrow track,
including SUV’s, minivans, and 4WD pickups, must be excluded
(e.g. Suzuki Samurai, Jeep CJ series, and GEO Tracker/Suzuki
Sidekick). Extra caution should be exercised with non-traditional
vehicles, e.g. trucks using racing slicks.

I like it, but why stop at cop springs? My ultimate build has a cop motor, a 440 cubic inch plant, it's got cop tires, cop springs, and cop shocks. And it's a model made before catalytic converters so it'll run good on regular gas. If you want, I'll fix the cigarette lighter...

It's 106 miles to Chicago, we've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

Sure bring SCCA's rules in to spoil our fun Beej, gotta wonder if that rule is infact over safty concerns or if somebody in a XJ, ZJ, Forrester, GM S-Ute (GMC Typhoon in particular), or BMW X-5 came, saw, and wiped up the course with the sporty type cars that were normally used in competition and there was a rule written using the trucks they mention as scape goats for their reasoning........................

Could it be done? Yeah, with serious modifications......

I'd love to know how serious those suspension mods actually were, didn't they keep the beam axle on those and still be able to get 1G out of them?

A nice and nasty little truck, but kinda defeats the purpose of making a Cherokee into a pavement preditor.

I did an auto-x in a lotus elise once. Now that was fun! My friend does it in his GTI and managed get a wheel airborne in a turn. He got a sway bar though.

Back on topic: Auto-x XJ=Very bad things happening to your XJ so give me your now before you hurt it. :D

they did keep the beam axle.
I know that they were all 2.5L trucks, and from the pictures I've seen they look lowered a few inches front and rear.
Of course, my recollection of stock MJ height is a bit fuzzy.
