AURORA Back-Up LIGHTS for Jeep CHEROKEE

any pics or installs in a 97+ model?

I read somewhere here that it could be done, but I haven't seen photos.
'97+ hatches are metal and would be a bit more work. Measurements are listed in the auction, check the thickness and any internal bracing of your hatch.
I haven't installed one on my '96 yet. I'll probably have them wired on a separate switch when I do.

I'll be doing it sometime around or after the first of the year. From tearing apart the hatch, it looks as though it might actually be slightly easier than on a pre-'97 - but we'll see once I get into it.

thanks i will look for an install or might take it upon myself... i just wanted to see if the fit would look as clean as the pre-97 models which are boxier but i mean i think the function anyways here would over take the looks... i guess the wiring is through the hitch lighting or reverse lamps in a relay?

I'm not much at running wires and relays, it's something I will need to learn as I go . . .

But I was planning on using some of the wires that aren't used in my low-option Cherokee. Do a search on backup lights etc. for far more than I know about wiring them. I don't have the heated back window so there are those wires that go all the way from the hatch to the dash where I can add in some of the factory switches I don't have for use with the lights.

It actually looks like it's going to be pretty easy:

- Make template and cut & drill hatch

- Silicone sealant around Aurora light buckets and mounting bolts to prevent water ingress through holes

- Mount Aurora lights (four bolts)

- Run wiring, call it done

Should look OK when it's done - the rounded edges on the Aurora lights look good when compared to the slightly curvier taillights and licence plate plinth on the post-'97 models. The only difference is that the later tailgate doesn't have a recess for the plate, so from the side they'll protrude about a quarter-inch or so from the rest of the hatch.

i guess the wiring is through the hitch lighting or reverse lamps in a relay?

My plan was to patch into the wiring directly for now, since it's already on a relay and there won't be significant enough additional draw with the Aurora lamps to justify a second relay. Later on I'll be adding a three-position switch - stock lamps only in reverse, stock lamps plus Aurora lamps in reverse, Aurora lamps always on. Annoyingly, there's a 12-week backlog to get the switch I want... Grr.
