anyone that lives in sacto area down to test drive a vibe situation? im all out

damn, i work at 515, but i live downtown, west sac is probably the closest place, and i work thurs fri/fri/sat at 430, so im free everyday until 430 and i have sunday/monday totally off. i will shoot you guys a call. i honestly did my best to try to have the damn thing ready for the deer valley run, now i just wanna try to have it ready for some camping at the least, and hopefully the next run that the seirra chapter ends up doing....with all the money ive dumped into the vibes situation i coulda regeared and paid someone to do it! damn....i am willing to work around your guys schedules, so ill call ya asking ya whats best for you since im the fool asking for help...i think im gonna take the tires in tomorrow too....

well now that the SYE is done you can take out the rear d shaft and drive it on the front to see if it is the rear d shaft.

Monday evenig works for me...

now that you have an SYE and have the front shaft balanced, have you removed the rear shaft and driven it in 4hi for a little bit to see if it is the rear driveshaft?

What tires are you running and what size?

ill pull the front shaft tomorrow or friday and drive it around in 4hi. im running bfg mudd terrains 31/10.5/15's, but i was running 33/12.5/15 swampers before januarary with the same vibes, i thought it was the tires at first...

pulled t case drop and reduced vibes alot, better driveshaft to pinion angle. had broken exhaust hangars weled and also helped alot. im gonna reshim the rear with my 4* shims and lengthen the rear shaft and call it done. the vibes are back to 65mph from 50mph, and only on heavy accel. and i can go 75mph on flat ground with no vibes for the most part. so its way better now...

rear has a brand new pinion u joint. like 10 miles on it. had a shop put it on when i got it balanced.

vibes under heavy accel- lower your pinion angle about 1 deg. or check for axle wrap.

my pinon angle is already pretty low. its at 10.5*, and my driveshaft is at 15-15.5*. i thought it was too low as is...i was gonna swap out my 2* shim for some 4* shims to get the pinion at 12.5*. ill check the rear shaft pinion joint for play before i get it lengthened. i might go to a yard and just pull another shaft too and try it.

alright, pulled the rear shaft to get it lengthened and drove it around on the front shaft. well up to 60 nomph vibes. was gonna get off the freeway and heard a little something so i hit the gas and went up the little hill on hwy 50 from about the 26th exit till the 16th st exit and heard some slight rumbling/vibes that i was still getting. hit it a little harder and heard em at about 65mph, almost completely unnoticable though, but there nonetheless. so i ordered a new tranny mount today, well i think that newer used one is more shot than my old one. and im getting the driveshaft lenghtened a bit. im also gonna take the jeep in somewhere and have the tires and rims checked for balance again. maybe have my alignment done as well maybe i didnt do the best job on the alignment. anyway thats what i got so far...

rear shaft is lengthened and i swapped in a new tranny mount and new crossmember. the vibes are a little better as well. so i get around 65mph under heavy acceleration, usually uphill. it started making some funny noises when i pulled it into the gargage today though. i gotta check it out tonight after work. also i noticed my oil pressure is at i think 20. i havent checked the sending unit yet though. it starts off at like 40 and slowly goes down to 20 and stays there.

The vibes are a little better just from putting in a fresh mount? Good. Now you can try putting the new and improved driveline in and see what happens. That should pull it down to driveline angles almost for sure, huh? Then we can try to hook up some time and figure out which shims you'll need...depending on how funny your noises are.

well, the pinion is at 11* and the driveshaft is at 15*, so im gonna throw in some 4* shims i have, and hope thats it. i might even do it tomorrow. i test drove it on the new shaft tonight up highway from downtown, still some vibes after 65 but its like a million times better than before. im hoping the shims fix it 100%.

thanks seirra chapter for all the input with the jeep. i just wanted to say that cuz i know youre all probably annoyed that i posted this and keep bumping it up and stuff like that. but the vibes are driveable now and i cant wait to do some major camping and instead of spending money on the vibes i can start saving for the 4.56's and 33" swampers and a arb for the 44 i wanted in the first place. with the 5" lift in the rear and the sye and lengthened cv shaft i cant wait to run 33's and lockers so i can once again run with the big dogs(used to have a scout on 35's and welded diffs and slickrock was almost too easy...) the 31's open/open are more of a challenge. i think im just stoked cuz im heading up to the clavey next weekend to do some camping, a little wheeling, and a bunch of target shooting and beer drinking. if anyone up there, we will be on the clavey 17-21st. the spot we camp in will be full with my xj and a buddies xj and a 4runner and yota pickup but there is tons of camping along the clavey on the old logging roads out there....all within a few miles. alotta big timber rattlers. fun to shoot with 22 cb's when they end up in your campsite and scare the shit outta ya....i have a fear of snakes...

up 108 down past long barn, east of sonora. and uh. my vibes situation still kinda sucks. i still had vibes with the 2* shims and 1.5" lift shackles. my pinion was at 11* and ds was at 15*. so i swapped in my 4* shims. then my pinion was at 14* and my ds was at 14.5*!!!!! so i still had vibes, kinda worse than before. so i pulled the lift shackles and now the pinion is at 11* and the ds is at 13.5-14*. so its a little better but still kinda sucks. i think im gonna order some 3/4" lift shackles and that should put me around 12-12.5* and im hoping that will help as well. the only 3/4" lift shackles i can find are rustys and i hate to order from him, but unless i find some other shackles between 1/2" and 3/4" lift im gonna have to. im just gonna have to get used to driving 55mph i guess. the shop said my tires are fine(had em balanced in january but who knows. so now im a little down about the situation. i might eventually do a porc sye to replace the hackntap but it wont be for a while. im gonna once again pull the front shaft, then pull the rear and drive it in front only and rear only and see if after pulling the t case drop if its any different.

alright some careful remeasuring shows that the pinion is at 12* and the driveshaft is at 14*. so now im stumped. i dont get it. i pulled the front shaft and the vibes were a little better, but still really bad going uphill accelerating, a little wear on the front shaft pinion side joint i noticed. so i pulled the rear and am taking both in tomorrow for all new u joints except the rear pinion joint and to have the cv joints inspected and replaced if worn out. if this doesnt fix it im gonna call up porc and replace my hackntap with a short shaft kit. it has just occuered to me that i havent replaced the pass side dana u joint on the axle shaft. thats like the only thing i havent replaced. could that possibly be causing all the vibes??? havent inspected it either.

i replaced the pinoin u joint on the front shaft today, the rear shaft is great. i also pulled the yoke off the rear and took it to the driveline place and had em put it in a lathe and make the cut cleaner, mine with the disk grinder wasnt that great...and i took the disk grinder to a few points on the surface of the output shaft to clean it up and take off a little lip. after the test drive the vibes are alot better but still there, but they are less in magnitude and less often, and not too bad until like 67mph. any ideas?

thanks guys. next im gonna look into some shackles, my pinion is at like 11.5 * and the ds shaft is like 14*, still looking for a 1/2" to 3/4" lift shackle to see if i can get the pinion angle closer, the 1.5" lift shackle was too much at 14*. i think next im gonna rebuild teh transfer case and do a porc kit, they are on sale for 169$....
