I'm really interested in getting an XJ to do a little wheelin and drive daily..

I'd like a chance to do a little wrenchin on someone elses XJ for an afternoon.. you know.. be the tool bitch.. spins some wrenches and get dirty..

I made a visit to the yard yesterday to paruse the parts selection and it definately looks like if I want to do some stock wheelin there are plenty of parts for when I break stuff... 6 XJ's from 84-93 all fairly complete.

Anyhow....

I'll BUY BEER... I just want to absorb some knowledge first hand before I dive into this head first...

I'm looking into a 1988 Limited w/ towing package (no D44 rear :( ) AW4... all stock 169K

I'm no stranger to auto repair as I'm a watercooled VW nut on the side.. so I might actually be useful... Let me know guys.. I'm thinking of becoming a part of the family...

If your interested, sometime in the next couple of weeks I am going to be stripping down an 90 XJ and getting it ready to move all my stuff from my existing rig over. Sometimes its helpfull to see how it comes apart before you dig into your own rig.

I'll be pulling my T-case probbally this weekend to assess the damage that I did to it in moab. I'm not looking forward to it, but it will be intersting.

Hey Tom, think that you'll have extra parts that you can part with? Like a drive shaft u-jount, d35c yoke, and maybe a main shaft for an NV-231?

Sometime in late march, early april I will be putting on a heep of parts. Troy has graciously donated the wrenchin' space. So I am sure there will be a slew of CO guys there if you want to show up. I'll buy the pizza, you can get the beer............. :laugh3:

Tom, let me know when your doing the big swap. If I have some free time, i'll lend a hand........... :repair:

Right On!

I'd love to help with the tear down!

When I redid my GTi I spat many a WTF! trying to figure out how to take something apart or sometimes put it back together... That was before I found the Pull n save on I-70 and peoria as well as aurora Auto salvage on Colfax and Xeno..... they're like the library...

Pay your 1$ fee.... drag your bucket of tools and go tear down an example of your car to get the missing hardware or just figure out how it comes apart/goes back together.... it helps to have a really common car... so I'm very comforted by the high XJ population at the yards...

Also Very glad you guys have GTG wrenching functions... those are some of my favorites as they result in a healty dose of humor along with learning how to get the job done.. or even new ways to do the same things.

Let me know when the day comes guys I'll be there 12'er in hand ready to bust some knuckles....

I'm thinking even if the planned trade of one of my longtime VW projects for the above XJ doesn't go through I'll be looking for an XJ after I sell the possessed thing.. (stupid corrado) the look of them and the options for modifications have me hooked....

So you are going to start building Goldilocks eh, Old Man.I'm starting the buildup of Smurf II in a couple of weeks.I've got JohnJohn rounding up the last few parts I need(still need to get that drop pittman arm from you if you still have it).Smurf I is ready for the crusher.

Citat3962,

If yer looking for an XJ to wrench on, I've got a great one for ya.....

I'm selling an '89 with the 4.0, 5sp, 4.5" Rusty's lift, t-case drop kit, 32" BFG KO muds on black rockcrawlers.

I just tuned it up, put new P/S lines on, changed the diff fluids and put new gaskets on, got it aligned on Tuesday, just put a new windshield in, new motor mounts.

Passed emissions with flying colors! Drives great!

I'm including a pair of LeBaron hood vents and a BFG 32" spare as well.

$2500.

Woah!

Dude that's a great deal!
I was leaning more towards an Auto but a stick would be cool too... I've never driven anything else.. I just figured the auto might be easier for the trail.

And If I decide I don't like it I can look into an Auto swap.

I'll PM you with some other questions.
