im stumped.
the 59 cj5 . ford v6. t90 3spd.

i just installed a slave and master from a 1980 cj on my 59. had some goody setup before. new line. master is bench bled.

also threw a new clutch disc and flywheel on. had the pressure plate checked out too and it was good.

also recently threw a warn OD on the back of the dana 18. i dont know if that would cause any problems if screwed that up ? i couldnt imagine how?

the thing wont shift. itll grind like crazy if i even try to shift it . if i do force into gear, itll die.

if i can somehow get it into gear, it wont move.

when the tcase is in neutral it shifts just fine.

anyone locally good with clutchs and playing around with master cylinders and slave cylinder setups?

im also wondering if the clutch disc could be on backwards would be a reasonable problem?

Bryan that sounds about right.
i also have no free play in the pedal so im going to redo the pushrod coming the pedal (again - just made it yesterday) to make sure there is about 1.5" of free play in the clutch pedal. then im going to try to bleed the system again, but this time im going to gravity bleed it instead of pumping. two guys i read about last nigth swore by the gravity bleed over the pump and wait so ill try that. then im going to see where im at, then im going to start adjusting the pushrod on the slave out like 1/2" at a time ( i made a new one , threaded it with the snap on tap and die set, and adjsuted it all the way in) and go from there.

gravity bled the clutch system tonight, that was actually fine, no air.
took off the overdrive to take that out of the picture and put the dana 18 back to normal.
took off the top of the tranny an checke out the shift forks for fun, all is well there.
shortene the pushrod at the pedal to make sure there was enough free travel an to make sure the throwout bearing isnt always engaged.

the thing still grinds and wont shift.

the pedal feel is crappy. i think the oedal rod setup i have is pretty goofy an might be causing some binding, although the slave goes out when the pedal goes in.

there is no spring on the clutch pedal though. never had one. i wonder if this would cause issues other than maybe wearing out the throwout bearing early?
