My house isn't cooling and the wife is pissed lol. The vents are just blowing room temp. air. The fan fires up just find outside, I've noticed it slowly but sure getting worse so I think it's either low or out of freon. Can anybody help me out?

try blowing out the coils with a fire nozzle on the hose or an air compressor. usually when the a/c guy comes out thats all thats needed....i used to work for redlands/henry busch plumbing hvac.

Good luck, Everything is getting phased out finding r22 units is getting harder then a few years ago.

If you have an older unit that uses R22 everything is being swicthed over to R410A that may mean you would need to replace the coil to handle the R410A if you end up replacing the air conditioner unit $$$$$$$$$$.

You can still order/buy a new R22 conditioning unit and have them installed.Still cheaper than buying a new unit.In the long run you would better buying a new 410 unit.Cost of running said new unit is worth every penny.

Get a couple of est from GOOD company's.Not some guy working out of his garage. You can get a 10 year warranty on the new units, this is why i say go with a name company.

As of 2010, the manufacture of systems using R-22 refrigerant will be prohibited. In 2020 r22 well no longer be produced. That's what I've read anyways, I just had to switch my system to R410a.

I don't need or want anything new. In a year ill be moving so basically I just need to make it through this summer.

Trying to source a used one is my best bet, I can't see forking out $2000 for a new unit I'm only going to use for a year.

I got my complete unit for that price. But i also worked for a company at the time. Check out online if you can find one.You may find brand new and then find somebody to install it for you.Cheaper maybe, don't know.

Are you renting?

Are you sure its a bad compressor? My friend;s unit did almost the same thing, the AC guy came out and tried to sell him a bill of goods (new compressor, contactor and a fan motor), I looked at it and found the bad start run cap, $60 later he was chillin in his house.

Yea he got the compressor to start and it was jumping around real bad and making a ton of noise. He found me a good used complete unit that he installed last night. Only charged me $150 for the used unit plus R22 and labor, came out to $400 even so I'm happy with that and the wife is happy because he house is cool again. Thanks for the help.

That's cheap, I'm a residential service tech and we sell r22 for 47 a pound, I can't imagine your system holds any less than four pounds. Sounds like you lucked out!
