Got any gear marking compound? I'd like to see a pattern on the gears just for sh*ts and giggles. don't forget to put a load on the pinion with a shop towel if you do.

Looks like it's a tad tight. Got a way to measure it?
I'm pretty sure you meant .005" which is a wee bit tight.philip_g said:you're gonna love this. I don't have a magnetic dial indicator and harbor freight didn't have any, so I'm using a pair of dial calipers kind of clamped against the housing. it's about .05 which is a bit tight but I figure it's probably a little looser than that. not accurate, I know. I don't think it's tight enough to make that kind of howling noise though
this whole thing has definitely got to be one of the worst ideas I've had in quite awhile, the main reason I'm worried about it is the noise, and I have to run the jeep to oklahoma city and live down there away from my garage and toold for 17 weeks and then back to denver, and I don't want the thing DJ'ing on me on the interstate. Sadly I've set up mazda diffs before and never had a problem lol

thanks man, I don't want to burn the miles to run all the way down there though.Frank Z said:My garage. You're welcome to borrow my HF base and indicator if you wanna drive down here for it. I can leave it out for ya, gotta go to a birthday day dinner tonight.
