I have one that I use on my tree farm regularly. I use it to help pull and lift logs onto my trailer to haul the trees to the mill. I also carry it in my truck or my XJ to help pull me out when I get stuck. I haven't damaged mine yet.

You should be ok with that pretty hard to screw that up I know harbor freight stuff can be kinda ridiculous sometimes but some of it really isn't too bad

I posted this on another board, got the usual remarks about its appearance and country of origin. I sat down under my shady tree and took it apart, made some observations.

The first shade tree tactic was the file test. The file did not hog into the steel, did chatter a little: Not too hard, not too soft.

While banging the plates around, I heard a nice sound. I had not thought to do the ring test, but the steel, and the aluminum sheave did produce a nice, resonating tone.

The only negative remark I'll take to heart, was the quality of the snap ring. I'll see what I can find to replace these.

What I've learned with most Harbor freight stuff is, if you take care of it, it will do its job. I'm tempted to try one of their winches, got good reviews from online and magazines.

Spent yrs. in the wrecker business and found out 2 things never bet your life on a cheap winch or snatch block. I did once and got off easy because I had on such heavy coats high in the mountains of CO. when the snatch block blew up that I was standing next to, when I was winching a car up a mountain side 150'. Ended up with 3 broken ribs and a broken thumb.

What's your safety worth if it lets go? I'll spend a bit extra on recovery gear, thanks.

Reviving this thread. So what would you recommend Hillbilly? I need to get a recovery kit together, starting from scratch. (Well, I have a Warn M8000 already).

I always said Cali, but then, I'm not one of the cool kids.

Sixteen posts and nobody has broke one yet...

I have two already.

Does that Warn have any of the typical, industrial certifications, any published standards that you can reference for me?
