Any experienced lifters willing to help lift 2" in Raleigh?

Battery cable broken.
Temp climbing while stopped.
Rust.
Suspension blown.
Wandering steering.
Passenger regulator stripped.
Carpet trashed.
Headliner stripped to the [ugly] backing board.
Seats that look like they came off the titanic.
A/C/Heat/Defrost Blower doesn't work.
Probably cutting fenders and raising flares.
Saw 30x9.50 BFG A/T's in the junkyard and they looked dinky.
Haveta paint this Heep.

Yeah. I need a beer myself.

We can troubleshoot a lot of that this weekend and form a plan. I think I have done just about all of that on mine.

Depending on your interior color and preference... I may just have some seats for you. how does grey sound?

I was hoping you'd say that.

This is where I am at on the list above:
Battery cable broken. - temp fix before this weekend
Temp climbing while stopped. - have fan clutch, will install this week
Rust. - we'll talk, plan to repair, seal, bedline, etc.
Suspension blown. - we'll be addressing this shortly
Wandering steering. - shakedown after suspension work
Passenger regulator stripped. - got it up for now
Carpet trashed.
Headliner stripped to the [ugly] backing board. - will recover, saw your thread
Seats that look like they came off the titanic. - we'll talk, may do ZJ upgrade
A/C/Heat/Defrost Blower doesn't work. - have junkyard part, TBD
Probably cutting fenders and raising flares.
Saw 30x9.50 BFG A/T's in the junkyard and they looked dinky. - need to see some of these in person
Haveta paint this Heep.

Anyway, looking forward to kickin' it with you guys and learning some Jeep!

This is where I am at on the list above:
Battery cable broken. - temp fix before this weekend - Time to upgrade to 5-90 cables like you said or make some
Temp climbing while stopped. - have fan clutch, will install this week - That was going to be my suggestion. Will go over more stuff this weekend
Rust. - we'll talk, plan to repair, seal, bedline, etc.
Suspension blown. - we'll be addressing this shortly
Wandering steering. - shakedown after suspension work A good alignment will help with this, we'll take care of that this weekend also
Passenger regulator stripped. - got it up for now Oh, WINDOW regulator. At first I couldn't figure out what you were referring to lol
Carpet trashed.
Headliner stripped to the [ugly] backing board. - will recover, saw your thread
Seats that look like they came off the titanic. - we'll talk, may do ZJ upgrade - Good chance to upgrade to some nice leather seats while you're at it
A/C/Heat/Defrost Blower doesn't work. - have junkyard part, TBD - Initial thought it the resistor pack, although they usually fail to where it works on high only....usually. Can tell pretty quick by pulling it out.
Probably cutting fenders and raising flares.
Saw 30x9.50 BFG A/T's in the junkyard and they looked dinky. - need to see some of these in person
Haveta paint this Heep.

Hope you're willing to expand on your list of "To do's"....with the three of us on it this weekend, it's going to get a thorough once over :D

Edit: Oh yeah! Keep forgetting Jpugh is coming too! Good lord, 4 people on one XJ. It may be completely different by the time the day's over!

What have I gotten myself into? :roflmao:

Nah, I really appreciate the help you guys are offering. I'm happy to have some veterans look over my basket case and help me get a plan together.

From a parts standpoint, I'm starting to get a bit nervous. I have two leafs (second one came yesterday!), tie rod boots, four u-bolts, one spacer, and no shocks. Yikes. I'll contact Top Gun and see if I can get some tracking info. Shipped the 10th I think, so should be here soon.

I did get 'er running this morning, after replacing this jewel as a temp fix.

Well crap.

Shocks are on national backorder. I ordered them the 7th. they had a 10 day arrival guarantee. The ebay order is marked as SHIPPED 2/10!!!!! FFFFFUUUUUUU---
Called them, they were like yeah, we marked them as shipped, because they were ordered... you effing kidding me bro? THANKS FOR NOTHING.

Checked around, backordered until the end of the month. No big deal I guess, we can still do the lift + springs, and I have some used RC shocks (no clue how much lift on those) and shocks I can do later.

I MAY see if I can get the OME shocks by this weekend. But yeah, that sucks. Not a dealbreaker for me though.

If no one has any objections, I think we'll just lift it with the OME springs and the used RC shocks I have, unknown lift but probably the ~3. Not really concerned about damage to the shocks, and I'm not going to be articulating anyway, at least until I get the Jeep in roadworthy condition.

I'll order the backordered Billys from another source (Top Gun won't be seeing my business, that's for sure), because I'm sure you guys know that is basically an hour, driveway job, and I mainly need the help for the leafs and springs anyway.

We can look the rest of the XJ over and see what needs to be done.

Dang I'm pissed they didn't give me a heads up and I had to call them. Sorry guys. :( Still looking forward to getting the springs in though.

You have to be careful when ordering from different businesses. Many don't stock anything and dropship the orders directly from the manufacturer. Top Gun probably had no idea that they were on BO when your order came in.

I would suggest looking at the NAXJA offical sponsors and reading the vendor feedback section to see who does a great job. I know Serious OffRoad gets a lot of praise.

No worries. We'll help you install whatever you want installed.

I hope you've started soaking all the bolts we're taking off this weekend with PB Blaster!!!!

Oh I'm sure. I just wish that when they realized they were going to miss their dates they would've called me instead of marking the damn things SHIPPED. I'm pissed enough that I'll be taking action through Ebay if that refund isn't in my paypal by the end of the day.

I'll check out the vendors, and I certainly believe in supporting the ones that contribute to the community. Disclaimer* I tend to Amazon anything that is available there, that Prime membership is just too damn convenient!

Thanks Tim. That really put a damper on my attitude, but I'll rebound. Both of my bumpers are totalled, but I noticed a large mud clump fell out near a wheel chock, so I think tomorrow I'll put the seats in, cover the rust hole with a plastic bag from the inside, and run it through an auto-underbody wash. I hit it with a high-pressure wand a couple of weeks ago, but apparently there is still some crap there.

I have already been PB Blasting those bolts since last week. I've been hitting them repeatedly and nearly daily.

When researching lift installs, I saw people jacking leafs with blocks of wood and putting tension in all kinds of places. This is why I asked for experienced help!!! But yeah, ouch that sucks for him, I think he left out the part about being knocked the F out in between touching the bolt and rushing to the bathroom.

lol I wheel with this guy from time to time. I've known him for a while. He's got a pretty sweet FJ.

He's healing up. His nose is still crooked as fawk tho. lol

Took a little drive this morning... Whoa cheezy this thing drives like a PIECE!

I hope to god that at least one of you brings your Jeep and that it is a Pre-95, so I can get a ride and feel what a Jeep is supposed to drive like before I go to far.

Here it is, slightly cleaner, but a whole lot wetter.

She's a real cream puff fellas! Still has quite a bit of mud packed into the bumpers... I'm thinking the dents are holding it in. :looney:

P.S. Another round of PB this morning...

oh no that crimp in the bumper will prevent any lift installs.. You ll need to sell the jeep to me because it will affect the Unibody body lift and the rear lights will be leaking halogen fluid.. i noticed your rear wheels should be on the front and your muffler bearings are more prone to breaking.. $200 and no more :)

Spot me the $200 in fuel, and i'll bring my heep. Otherwise its the 35mpg DD :D

That Jeep doesn't look too bad. I'll go ahead and put one foot in my mouth by saying i've worked on ones in worse shape before.

If I can't pull those dents out of the bumpees with a skyhook it's a deal!

Aw hell, now you done-done it!

Edit: naw to the gas money, I think J Pugh's will do nicely... He's got those new Moabs to show off, and has no DD!!!! haha!

J Pugh is about the only option... Mine wouldn't really give a fair representation of how a close to stock XJ should ride.
