Any experienced lifters willing to help lift 2" in Raleigh?

You'll love the ride out of the OME springs. My XJ floats down the interstate! I'd add an OME Extra leaf out back if you plan on loading it down like I do.

You'll be in good hands With Nick and Tim working on your junk too BTW! boys!

Even if i'm only web working on it :D

Looking like I'll have other vehicles to work on when you guys are planning the lift install, otherwise i'd be making a road trip!

Take the bushings and throw them in the freezer for a couple of hours. Once they're good and frozen, run outside and throw them in the new leaf springs. You should be able to practically slide them right in, or with a little help from a normal hammer.

I've read this, I just didn't know if it was legit. I'll try to get my hands on the parts and get the bushings in before install day. I'll probably put them in backwards, or with the bolt hole vertical.

That's what I'm going for. Someone recommended Rusty's front and OME leafs on another forum, but I'm a pretty big fan of matched spring rates, so I ended up getting the OME fronts with the 10mm OME spacer. I've had VERY good results from matched springs and Bilsteins on my cars. The goal is better on-road and light off-road performance than stock.

I'm oping all the parts are here early next week and Nick is available next weekend.

nooooooooooooo!

dang... wish you could be here. It'd be a lot easier with 3! :laugh3: Serious though, he's gonna be like, man this Jay guy... was useless! Showed up with a busted old XJ and a pick n pull tool kit!!!

Nick, PM me the location of where we are going to do it if you don't mind. I'm debating pulling my carpet to start leak testing and prepping my floorpan and want to see if the drive is short enough to be reasonable with no carpet. I live near Lynnwood Grille between Millbrook/Lynn Rd.

It's definitely legit. When I replaced the bushings on my old RE leaf springs this past summer, I used the freezer trick. I threw them in while I worked on getting the old ones out (old ones were beyond trashed...had to cut them out which took about 30 minutes on each side), and the new ones almost slid completely in by themselves. Only took a couple of light taps with hammer to position them correctly. And if you get the insert for the bolt put in vertical, i'll be impressed! There's only one way it can go in...

Yeah wish I could make the trip too, however my sister informed me the other day she hasn't had the oil changed in her car since the last time I change it......2 years and 30K ago...:banghead:

Ok, just ordered the ubolts. 4x UB3s from Rusty's.

Cnickgo, can we press in rubber leaf bushings at your place or should I just order the Prothane? I need to get those ordered and I think that'll be it.

I have a bench vise that is not bolted down. I haven't changed bushings in a leaf pack yet so I'm not sure how much it will take, it may be worth it to install those ahead of time so that we don't get hung up during the lift.

Next weekend will work well for me as I am on call so I won't be able to head out of town anyways.

Oh, don't worry about bringing tools... I think you will find I have that covered :)

I haven't had any carpet in my Jeep in 3 years. I'm fairly sure you can make a trip with no carpet. :)

Oh, I know I can make it. It's just whether I want to. :laugh3: I once rode my old ZX7 from Elberton, Ga, to Raleigh, NC... New Years weekend, 35º. I've gotten wise (weak?) in my old age. haha...

Yeah, I was kidding about the vertical bolt bit, haha. I'm good at breaking stuff, but I can't defy the laws of phyics... yet. 30k between changes? oof. I wonder if she's had to add much oil over that time.

Sounds good. I'll freeze em and try to stick em in before next weekend. The good news is we'll have NEW leafs, and NEW bushings, so we shouldn't have to work too much with the old bushings.

Do you have a spring compressor and/or will we need one? Also, tie rod separator/grease gun/grease for swapping to the ZJ tie rod I have? I swear I'm not going to be adding stuff for us to do! This is strictly suspension day unless it breaks down over there. :eeks1:

Be sure to take a lot of before, during and after pictures. Always nice to see where you started.

Yup I have springs compressors and grease gun. A pickle fork for the TRE shouldn't be necessary usually a good smack or two to break the taper is all that's needed. I think I have one at home though I'll grab it just in case.

Before and after definitely, during... not so sure about that. We're probably both going to be elbows deep in some major bull... especially since Tim refuses to help. hahaaa!

Well if you have a spring compressor set on hand I definitely do not doubt your tool set. That's a once-every-few-years tool for me.

BTW, I've been PB Blasting the top and bottom front shock bolt and bar pin, the rear bar pins, the u-bolts, and the front and rear leaf bolts, + the TRE castle nuts. Anything else I should be blastin' through next week?

Yep, mine hasn't had carpet since I bought it and I still DD it. Herculiner is nice! :D

Hey, Pep boys has buy 3 tires get one free deal.

That's a good deal... I'm looking more at the 30, which they also have.

I've heard people get ridiculous mileage out of the BFG A/T, and I'm strongly considering those... But I also dig the Wrangler M/T... I hear Walmart has their own line of them for cheap, but no 30 last I checked. Also kinda considering the treadwrights.

Yeah, I've read a lot on this. My main concerns are heat and noise, babyseats occasionally, dontcha know. I think I'm going to seal it, possibly bedline it, and then toss an OE style carpet back in it.

Hang on, i'll punch him via text message! :D

Perfect! Thanks.

Here was my rust experience. I put carpet back in because I found a really nice set at the junkyard. I strongly recommend the Jasco treatment.

I looked through that post, looks pretty good to me. I'll talk to you about it on Saturday. Speaking of which...

Houston, we have a problem! I got my OME leaf in just now. Yeah, you read that right. LEAF... So I'm a blockhead and ordered one leaf. I guess I expected them to be a pair or I just wasn't thinking... Now, they're out of stock. No problemo, chatted with quadra, order by 3pm, ships same day. So leaf #2 is on the way.

I had a helluva time with the bushings. I ordered two front and two rear Moog bushings sb371 and 372 IIRC (even though Amazon's car picker says they don't fit 94 XJ, RockAuto says they do, guess we'll see). Read something here on NAXJA about the oda-mix only lasting a year for one guy, was about to get them from quadra before reading that. Who knows if they'll be right.

30k between changes? oof. I wonder if she's had to add much oil over that time.

If she hasn't changed it in 30k, what would make you think she'd even check it to see if it needed anything? She's a "drive it till some light comes on or a dinger does a dingy thing" type person. But she can (and did) put a set of brakes on her car all around and all on her own just a few months ago, so I do give her just a little bit of credit there. I'm thinking I may let her crawl under there and change her own oil with my supervision this time around. Maybe getting up to her elbows in the TAR that will be coming out will be a nice little wake up call...

Before and after definitely, during... not so sure about that. We're probably both going to be elbows deep in some major bull... especially since Tim refuses to help. hahaaa!

I may have some good news for you, more to follow as the weekend progresses.

Careful or i'll knock your teeth out......oh, wait........:D

Screw waiting the weekend.

Plan is this, I'll come up to Cary either Friday night or really freakin early Saturday morning, help you two clowns throw the lift on, then head off to Winston Sunday morning to get all the stuff done on family member's rides.

Guess i'll lay low this weekend to save fuel/money.

Well I can only vouch for one clown at this time as I've never met Nick. :wave1:

But it would be pretty epic for me to meet another SEC member, and I'm sure he'd appreciate there being 2.5 people working on my Jeep instead of the 1.5 it would be otherwise. Might want to check in and make sure my parts are all here... I'll be tracking UPS like a hollywood stalker!

I currently have:
ZJ Tie Rod (Junkyard)
Energy TRE boots
OME front coils.
1x OME rear leaf 2" Light

And I have ordered:
4x Rusty's U bolts for 8.25
1x OME rear leaf (from Quadra)
2 front leaf bushings
2 rear leaf bushings
1x OME front coil spacer GOT DIESEL I JUST REALIZED I ORDERED ONLY ONE OF THESE!!!!!! :banghead:
1x more OME front coil spacer. Jeez. This is why people order kits. These Bilsteins better rock ass.

Oh, he's a big clown....not as much of one as Tim though!
