any day trips to the Sierras from Fresno to recomend?

Thought I would pop back to the Naxja board and ask a question.

I moved to the area (Lemoore) and want to go on a nice day trip trail in the Sierras with my FJ40. I know Bass Lake well especially up Beasore Road, but maybe something a bit closer. If I go up Beasore, I run the risk of getting to far away from civilization and getting stuck. I will be solo as I want to get some quiet time with just my rig and dog so nothing that will be dangerous to do alone. Sure I have a winch and rear locker, but don't push things by myself. Maybe a nice secluded lake or stream to get away from people for the day. Forest or fire roads would be best. I need to get a break from the wife and childspawn for the day. Something within an hour or so from Fresno would be perect. I don't need to go way up in elevation as the weather changes quickly this time of year, but I do want quiet, trees, and some type of water to sit by in my camp chair, have a beer (just one as i pretty much stopped drinking), and read a book between a spot of fishing and a nice long nap (gawd I am getting old) The fishing isn't necessary, but quiet is. So any suggestions? Thanks, Dan

Blue Canyon. Exactly what your looking for!

Directions are as follows. Take 168 to the top of the 4 lanes and turn right onto Tollhouse Rd. You will make your first left onto Peterson Rd. Once you get past all the homes and ranches, any of the dirt roads are fun little trails. If you get to Blue Canyon Camp ground that is almost to a fork in the road where you can either head north to Bald Mtn or south and go to Pine Flat lake and take 180 home.

Thanks. I think I have been up there before. Isn't there a pretty popular electrical tower trail around there?
