Hey guys, I am thinking of taking my wife to Niagara Falls this Sept. Anybody got any must do's or suggestions of where to stay or any other pertinent inf.? Thanks, Jeff

I just got married up there, first time there, beautiful! We went in April, and it was extra nice because there wernt a lot of people. Anyway, this hotel is in walking distance, to everything, and if you book online the rates are much cheaper. Its the closest place I found to the falls, and the best rates, but call around.

Its a really nice place, and they have jacuzzi suites - that look much better then the pics in here make them look! Also you HAVE to eat at the Red Lion Inn! (Also walking distance) They have incredable food, and its dress or casual, nice! They have the BEST Prime Rib I have ever eaten.... yum..... I feel like Homer now! LOL! Anyway, lots to do there in walking distance, on the canadian side there is a strip that looks like a carnival / boardwalk with games and rides.

We are going in September as well on the way to my brother's wedding in Syracuse. We are staying at the Embassy Suites. The room that we have overlooks the falls and has a jacuzzi.

Oh yeah, if you stay on the American side non of the hotels overlook the falls, but they do on the Canadian side. And American money is worth more in Canada

Our "new" casino just opened in early June ... nice to see, BAD for the wallet! :laugh:
How long are you staying? You can drive either way along the Niagara Parkway, towards Buffalo is about 20 odd minutes or the other way towards Niagara-on-th-Lake (NOTL). There is more to see and do towards NOTL like
winery tours and shopping, but staying there is much more expensive. Mind you, from what I see the local hotels raping people for some overnight stays, it could be a bargain.
Clifton Hill is where all the amusement stuff is. Pretty tacky really, and geared towards ripping off the people that visit. I got stuck buying a ice cream brownie treat for my son there at the local DQ where some friends where visiting and paid $8 :flamemad: for it, where it's normally $3 and change anywhere else SO YOU'VE BEEN WARNED! :eyes:
All in all, there's lots to see and do, it just depends on what you're into.

I went I saw it and then I left. The first and last time I went (10 years ago) both the American and Canadian side where both dumps. I can't believe I wasted my money on a hotel room. JMHO
Go visit Toronto and take a side trip down there. The falls are worth seeing but nothing else there is.

Was there years ago and we stayed at the Skyline Brock. Had veiws of the Falls. Was just there again a few months ago. A side trip durring a work trip. The American side has a nice park and OK views, it's worth a visit. The Canadian side has better views. We went up the Minolta tower while there which gave nice views. I also would recommend Toronto, it's a nice city. We also made a trip to a drive through zoo of some sort. It's not a long drive and it was a lot of fun. If you can find the place and get time to get there I wouldn't miss it. My wife and I had lots of laughs while we were there.

Go on the Maid of the Mist boat ride. Yeah, you get wet, but I think they sell or have ponchos available (haven't been there in forever) and you get up real close to the Falls, its really pretty nice.

Yup, still had 'em when I was there in '99. Staying on the Canadian side is a definite plus, and if you're up for a bit of a drive head up to Toronto and swing around the north side of the Great Lakes to come back in. Just don't do what we did and get lost in Detroit on the return; it was really... *Exciting* there for a bit.

We took the SS Badger across Lake MI Saturday afternoon and then camped at Mears State Park on Lake MI in our van. Sunday morning we checked out Silver Lake state park. I got to see some hill climbs, hiked in the dunes a bit, and swam in Silver Lake and Lake MI. That afternoon, we drove through orchards and scenic MI before getting on the interstate and driving to Lake Huron. We camped that night at Lakeport State Park just north of Port Huron. In the Morning, we passed into Canada and drove all the way to Niagara Falls, Ontario. We stayed one night in a B&B and two nights at the Courtyard by Marriot. We purchased adventure passes which let us do the Maid of the Mist boat ride, travel down to the falls and behind the falls in tunnels, walk along a rapids boardwalk and tour the Butterfly Conservancy. All nice things although quite touristy. The Theme Park like streets of town were a bit interesting and weird. I was a bit saddened by all the building right up to the falls, but it was what it was and I'm glad we visited. We spent an afternoon exploring up along the river to Niagara On The Lake and toured a fancy Winery while up there. The last morning, we passed into New York and ran up to Fort Niagara as well as checked out the american side of the falls before jumping back into Canada and returning to Lake Huron. We camped that night at the Pinery Provincial park on Lake Huron. Nice park, but kind of expensive for camping. The next day we passed into MI and ran at an angle to Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore for a night of camping. From there we worked our way along the shore all the way to the Mackinac Bridge. Had an early dinner there before crossing to the UP and driving to Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore for a final night of camping at 12 mile beach. Superior is still my favorite great lake, but the others were nice to visit although Ontario had a foul smell and look where stopped southeast of Toronto. It looked nice by Fort Niagara though. We had fantastic weather the whole trip and it was enjoyable traveling with the wife.
