I talked to Cody earlier today about his situation. He had someone that was going to go back out with him today and get it unstuck.

I don't know anything else. I suspect we will see a post much later tonight.

He learned from the best. :roflmao:

i'm back, but the jeep is still up there. i went up there this morning with john's (bayview 4x4) XJ. i winched on it for a few hours wile it was anchored to a tree to prevent tipping, it almost went over a few times but luckly it didn't. i don't think anyone will mess with it, its pretty high up there i am going back up either sat or sun. any help would be appreciated.

p.s. SSR's suck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cody,
Do you have any photos or explanations of exactly how this thing is stuck so that we can at least be as prepared as possible for the extraction?

Michael

i will have some pics shortly.

im down for helpin. im only 15 min away from where your jeeps at.

This is what this forum is about!!!!

Cody, the first thing you need to do is dig out under the jeep so that it actually sits on all 4 wheels and not on the belly pan. That will take a while, but not more than a hour or so with a couple of people with decent shovels. You then need to create a trail for it to back out of so that it doesn't slide farther to the pass side.

Is there room for a Jeep to park behind you and winch you backwards (on to the trail I assume?) And if so, are there tree's that they can tie the rear of their Jeep to so that they don't slide into you?

It looks to me like the recovery team should have the following. MIMIMUM of two Jeeps with 1 person in each. A good working in winch on 1 of them. Several different length shovels. Several tow straps of varying lengths. And possibly a large anckor (sp?) if there are no tree's to tie off to.

I am always willing to help, but this is a 4hr drive plus loading, gas, and my son's birthday party so I don't really want to make this one if I don't have to.
Anybody else with any ideas

the jeep is on the ledge, i thik you would need a backhoe to dig that much earth out. all four tires are technically on the ground, just at an agle on the ledge.

yes and no. there is room but, there is nothing to atach too behind me as an anchor exept the snow bank. that could work but you would need another vehicle to atach to the winch vehicle.

you need two winches, i was up there with one yesterday and it wasn't doing much. its in a little better position, but i think you would need two because you have to pull against the ledge.

micheal, thanks for the help but i wouldnt want you to drive that far for this, i think we can get it with help from this side of the water.

cody

It's hard to tell from the photos but I don't see what two winches would do for you, How would you position the two vehicles to winch you?

even if you don't get all the snow out from under the Jeep you need to move enough snow to allow the jeep to be winched back and not slip down the bank more. This should be done before the winching starts.

An alternative is to strap the front or side of the jeep to a tree on the drivers side of the jeep if there any within a reasonable distance.

Keep in mind you might have to use a snatch block on the winch vehicle and as you said tie it to another vehicle behind it (both might also need to air down to next to nothing and chock the front of all 4 tires with snow or better wood).

Michael

i did have the drivers side strapped across the trail to a tree. i was using a snatch block. if i had two winches i could attach one to the slider and use a snatch block, the other would be from either the front or rear, this way we could pull from the side aswell as front or rear to prevent more sliding/tipping.

its hard to explain but i was up there for a long time and i do know what im doing and i know what needs to be done, i just didn't have enough poeple/equipment.

Cody, my buddy and I are sitting here at work and would offer one suggestion for angle increase. Use a section of 4x6 wood about 4' long and put it close to your Jeep. A good base on the wood or using a railroad tie would be the best. This piece standing up (mild angle toward the Jeep) with the winch line over top of it creates a higher angle, so you can actually pull the rig UP and help get it over the snow. Use that wherever you need it. Long boards to put under the tires at that point will help with sliding it back onto the track.

FWIW I guess. :)

If for whatever reason you're not back on dry land by tomorrow night, we can come up.
