Funny they carried Obama's speech live on four German channels, 3 translated into German and one with him speaking live (English). The Armer forces network here has 6 channels, none carried the speech live (that I saw).
One headline in a German newspaper (tongue in cheek) said elect Obama President................................Of Germany.
I may be full of it, but experience tells me if the Germans like him so much there has to be something really wrong with him. The French are too wise in the ways of politics to endorse him, they know he would loose for sure then.
IMO the people are just tired of business as usual and willing to endorse anything that might offer an alternative, whether it works or not.
If he does get elected, the House and Senate Republicans will try to block any and all initiatives he proposes, no matter there merit or desirability. Just like the Dems are doing now. They seem to hate each other so much it's almost impossible for them to work together for the greater good.
The Germans relate to Obama because he is a minority and the Germans have always thought of themselves as misunderstood victims. The rest of Europe sees them as arrogant, loud, obnoxious and pushy.
After what has happened in the oil futures market recently, Germany is rethinking their support for Kyoto and the plan to trade CO2 just like oil. More and more Germans are thinking America was wise to opt out. The only thing they hate more than America being wrong, is America being right.
