The basis of a militia is to be able to take a stand against a government wishing to use power and politics to rule the people without a voice from the people. we regulated means trained. You want to train more people and educate them about fire arms before they can purchase? The intent of the second amendment was to prevent fed gov from disarming its citizens, allowing it (the gov) to rule with absolute uncontested power(AKA THE ARMY!). What does gun control do? eliminates guns. also read: disarms citizens. DIRECT violation of the second amendment.
You say no need for an assault weapon, they are meant for killing people. I wont argue that. Ill agree. Thats the ****ing point of a militia ya genious!!! If your argument is that they wont do anything against the powers of the fed gov. I would also agree and say that your point did nothing but push that citezens need to be able to obtain rockets, tanks, etc. Oh is that not what you meant? Because by saying that the "assault rifles" are useless against the fed gov you said the militia - citizens who legally own - needs to be more powerful in order to not have their right to fight back, per the 2nd, infringed.

HAHA. I am not posting personal opinion sepcifically about gun rights. gun owners and such sure. But on the specific arguement I am posting facts and questions related to the constitution. the 2nd specifically. and SCOTUS. I have yet, between any of you nay sayers, to have someone use actual wordage, between the constitution, the 2nd or SCOTUS to prove what I have posted wrong, or to prove their point. The news doesnt matter, none of our opinions matter. What matters is the law. And ultimately SCOTUS decides what is and isnt legal per the constitution. So instead of arguing. Prove me wrong. Get actual verbage. Ive been asking for it for several pages now and none of you can offer it. I wonder why?

Your "fix" doesnt make you look better. You argue only the side you want of an arguement (the freedoms killing people) and it makes you look silly
Also saying the constitution is outdated shows your lack of respect and understanding of the document that this country is build on. Also shows that not caring about the document shows you dont get the legal system and how it all boils down and the role of the document to the 3 branches, specifically SCOTUS.

Again, do some homework. Use some legitimate examples (not the news, or someones opinion - unless a SCOTUS justice) and prove me wrong. or just try and prove yourself right.

year 2010 drunk driving deaths... almost 33000. 210 of them were children.

Cancer deaths 2010: 569490

9/11/01 deaths... almost 3000 to terrorism. 42196 to traffic accidents of all kinds.

Cancer deaths 2001: 553400

Now we have the PATRIOT act and the TSA, have torn down our own freedoms and what we stood for and have spent not billions but trillions abroad fighting a shadowy enemy. Who won? How much of the looming national debt is due to this?

This past week:
now, 27 people and one monster are dead in Connecticut. The killer stole guns, then killed people, took the stolen guns to a gun free zone, and killed more people. And now people want to pass more laws that tread on the rights of many law abiding citizens to keep it from happening again. Very effective.

Two, plus one monster are dead in Clackamackas. It would be more, no one can say how many more, if it weren't for one responsible gun owner.

This year's cancer deaths: Probably around half a million based on previous years.


I will take those odds - even if it means criminals kill people, especially since they probably would find a way to anyways. Even if it means I become one of those statistics. Every time I get in the drivers seat of my jeep, I realize that I am three times more likely to die in a traffic accident as I am to die in a homicide - and due to the number of miles I drive every year (around 3x the national average) it's probably more like nine times higher! And I live in Massachusetts, where turn signals are a sign of weakness and tailgating is a way of life, so it may even be higher than that!

And either way I am approximately FORTY TWO TIMES more likely to die of cancer than I am to die in a homicide - of any kind, with any weapon. ~550k cancer deaths, 13k homicides, do the math.

Yet we let damn near anyone drive a car and everyone is screaming for gun control.

And don't say, no-one will ever steal MY gun. It happens. It could be your kid. And crimes are committed everyday using stolen guns.

It does happen, and it indicates to me that the vast majority of people who would commit a crime with a gun are willing to steal one or get one via illicit means even if they are illegal. The only people whose rights and lives are affected by gun control are legal owners.

The more guns there are out there, the more likely someone will find one during a breakin. Why make it easy(er) for them.
And even you know your last statement is not true.

For example:
Why is Thallium illegal to possess in the US.answer It is so insidiously dangerous, that it might kill people who mishandle it.
This is just one example of things being banned because it might hurt not only the user, but innocent bystanders. I know the cat is out of the bag now, but common sense would say no to general population possession of assault weapons. Handguns, hunting weapons, no problem.

This is nitpicking. The rat poison is banned for the very same reason I suggested last post. It cannot be used safely, and is too easy to use TO KILL SOMEONE.
If you tried to buy elemental thallium, unless you are a chemist buying it for an analytical standard or something, the FBI would want to talk to you.

Per the constituion (that you dont even respect as a founding document) there is a right to bear arms.
it does NOT say: bear handguns and rifles for the use of self defense or sport or hunting but no "assault rifles" or "war machines" - (play call of duty much? WTF is a war machine???)
