Going to try and make it down to look at this rig (actually they have 7 of them) this weekend. Probably wont have everything done and tied up by Winterfest, but still gonna try and pull it off in the next couple of weeks to get one bought. Not real hot on the motor in them, but for the $$$ I can put up with it. Momma is even cool with the idea, so we will see what pans out....

And what's wrong with an IH466? Realistically, even if you put a flat bed on the back to haul your rig, along with a bumper-pull travel trailer, that's still a pretty light load.

What's the price range on those? And specs (transmission, miles, etc?)

My bus only has the dt360 in it and it does suck but gets the job done, avg 64 mph.

Here we go again! :D That oughta pull pretty nice!

Jeff, I WISH these had the 466 in them. They all have the 444 in them, which as you probably know is a 7.3 same as the early Powerstrokes. They are all geared in the 4.6's and are running topped out about 65 or so. I just need it to haul the 32 ft GN w/ 2 rigs on it and an occassional GN livestock trailer or hay trailers w/ round bales. Price is the same on all 7 of them...choice at $4995 w/ miles ranging from 40K to 240K all have spicer 6 speeds in them w/ air brakes...no juice brakes here! :D All were former fleet trucks for a natural gas company and have good maintence records supposedly...new paint on all of them b/c they used to be blue. Be a fun project to clean up and put aflat bed on and trick out the cab since it is basically 2 front seats and steering wheel...no back seats in these and no options other then heat and air :D

Can we say OVERKILL.:D Just kidding buddy. Looks like a project for sure.

It is a bit much for hauling one rig, but I will use it around the farm and for other towing as well...I will still have the Chevy for hauling my single place trailer w/ only my rig on it.

I was actually gonna call ya Brian but did not have your #. I wanted to talk w/ ya about what power plant you had in the Big Sexy, I was assuming it was an IH powered unit. I was curious to milage (or lack there of) problems to look out for etc.

This rig makes sense to me for teh fact that if I trade in my Chevy it will take an additional 15-20K to get a newer loaded up diesel truck like I currently have. So, for $9000 I can buy one of these trucks as well as a new GN trailer and still keep my Chevy crew cab for daily use and farm light duty use. Who knows...I have been wrong many, many times before! :D Any insight is appreciated from anyone that has knowledge about these rigs. I have googled the piss out of it for a few weeks and dont get any real bad vibes about it......

Thats one hell of a price. the closest priced diesel dodge(cummins or nothin! :D) i saw around here was a 97 reg cab 4x4 with a cummins and an auto for 5800. the body had seen better days too.

Sunnuva.... I gotta call my brother. For that price, he really needs to pick up one of those, and drop a gooseneck hitch between the frame rails. Be one heckuva rig for hauling cherries, we never hit 60 mph.

i can tell you that I have thought about a rig like this...haul four people down the road, put a rig on the bed, tow a rig, camper, two rigs...you name it...

if there was only a perfect solution

I used to drive a flat bed Int with the 6 spd, 444, single axle, juice brakes for a tile/terrazzo outfit in Ft Wayne. I never ran it across the scales, but I'd guess we had it pushing 28K at times. It was not exactly a demon fully loaded with cement or tile, but I'd think it would drag a trailer around without much trouble. Compared to the 60s era grain trucks I'd driven, it was a Caddy with a 2 speaker cassette deck and AC. :) Top speed empty on flat ground with a tailwind- 67MPH.

You won't like the 6-speed on the highway with a good sized load. But it will take care of any chores you want it to do if you are in town.

Somebody has been reading the Pirate towrig forum.

Yeah, I saw a build over there that sparked my interest again for one of these trucks. The farm (before my wife and I were married) had one of these w/ the 466 in it and it even had a plow. My father-in-law has been telling me that for the money you can not beat these old International trucks. That is all they used to buy back in the late 50's and 60's on the farm. We still have the remains of a few of them out along one of the junk ditches even! :D I am really thinking as long as they are not a total lemon, it would be a well diversified set up and for cheap money. And it it is a POS after a year..well, I still have a new GN trailer and I can scrap out the truck for a little then crush it for the rest. :D

I think you can do a complete rebuild on the 466 right between the frame rails, my 360 is a sleeved engine. I think for 5k BUY it.

these all have the 444 in them, so I am not sure about an in frame rebuild, but I am hoping to score one of the lower milage units so I hopefully wont have to do a rebuild for a while. I would rather have the 466, but I have read that this 444 would do all I would ever need it to. It is the same motor used to go off of for the PSD originally...the 7.3, not the 6.0 or newer designs. They are all low geared rigs, so I have even looked around for other higher geared rears for them as an option for highway speeds....

I know these are not beauty queens, but I believe they would have the potential for one hell of a tow rig and back up farm rig....uh, I mean, a farm rig and a back up tow rig (Uncle Sam might be watching :D)
