first problem i originally thought was in the speakers because the radio would come on as it pleased. Eventually i started not getting any power to the radio....
any ides?

second thing is coming from work i started hearing a annoying whine coming from the middle part of the engine! seems like its consistant with the coldness of the engine!

Thanks

where is the whine coming from? Speakers or somewhere else? If speakers even when the stereo is off means that either you have power wires interfering with your amplifier inputs, bad ground, etc. If you do have an amp, did you incorrectly run the power wire next to the RCA wiring?

Need more info.

no those are 2 seperate issues the speakers were going in and out sometimes they would play sometimes they wont.
but all of a sudden no more power to the stereo!!

2d issue just started when i was in park sitting after driving from my job to my house (8 or 9 blocks) and sitting there the whine got louder so i popped the hood and it sounded like its come from the fam area
unlike my 88 xj this 94 has 1 fan to cool the engine i see.
but im guessing its coming from that area! I want to know what im talkin about when i take it to a knowledgeable mechanic!

where am i suppose to post at? please help me!

Well, for an XJ or MJ you post in OEM or Mod tech depending on the issue at hand.

For a GRAND CHEROKEE, Isuzu, Subaru, Ford, GM, Toyota, Mercedes, well, all of those and a whole bunch of others end up in Other Tech.

The VC in the TC is bad.

Could be the torqe converter my friends ZJ had a dying TC and it whined like crazy

Possibly power steering pump. You need to get a stethoscope and see if you can narrow the sound down to a particular accessory.

But before you do that take off the accessory belt and see if the sound goes away. If it does you know you have an accessory with a problem.

I drive an 01, and I have the same/similar? problem when it gets cold... steering pump that is. You should be able to tell if it is that, because it will be... hard to steer ;)
But, I' ve had that issue for a year with no need to replace it yet (knock on wood).
I hear it is typical of the xj.
