Voluntary recall on recoil spring. The guide rod gets brittle after awhile but it takes along time and most upgrade to a stainless or tungsten rod. The gen 4 doesn't have this issue since they came "upgraded".

Not even close. In my academy class we had 4 Sigs with major malfunctions, one of which blew up in the guy's hand. Zero Glock failures and one Springfield failure that was chalked up to operator error.

Ironic that a bunch of guys that drive bricks are complaining about ugly guns :D

I would say the circumstances of the recalls are quite different though. Accidental discharge is kinda a big deal compared to a broken recoil spring that doesn't happen very often.

Eh, I'm really not worried but I'm probably gonna pick up an lcp to carry til it's fixed.
 
Illinois Conceal Carry developing.......

well folks, i just got back from being fingerprinted for my illinois carry instructors app.

I'm on top of this....I was told I was THE FIRST to be processed by the ISP's approved vendor, Accurate Biometrics.

I'm expecting to be amoung the group of first to recieve an endorsement.

I've already paid for the Illinois-specific curriculum pack, which is what we're supposed to put behind the 8-hour NRA "basic pistol" which some of you may already have....

Here's what most instructors are probably goping to end up doing.....I'm not the Instructor spokesperson, but most have already concluded that there is a simple way to handle the 16-hour requirement, considering that the ISP said they are going to honor certain training modules that some have recieved and use them as "credit hours" towards the 16....

16hours will be broken up in to two 8-hour segments.....the first is the NRA basic pistol, and the second will be covered in the curriculm pack That I should recieve in a few days. The "second day" will include illinois-specific focus on laws and ordinances and other situational training and such.

there is a video by assad mayoob produced exclusively for IllinoisCarry.com instructors that covers use of lethal force and such.

The ISP appears to be moving the ball forward, which comes as a surprise to most of us.

I will continue to update when i know more.
 
Sounds similar to Ohio training, except its 12 and not 16. A 12 hour requirement can be taught on a long Saturday.

It's good to see that the training requirements will be commensurate with other states. That will help with reciprocity.

i don't agree with 16 hours.....but that's what satisfied enough legislators in order to pass a workable bill......so in that case, I'll stand behind it.

I think 12 hours is too much too.

8 is the nra basic pistol standard, and some states like utah and florida require course contant that can normally be covered in four or five hours....

we're not training people to be cops.

and that's actually something that we stress....

I will share with my class two thought-provoking first-hand ancedotes told to me by my training councellers, that made a big impression on me and my attitude for when I'm carrying.

of course, beyond the nra standard 8 hour course content, the rest of it remains to be seen.
 
I've been through a 20 and 60 hour class and think some of my class mates should not bring carrying guns. I think 8 is plenty if you already know how to shoot but I don't think 12 is enough for a newb that wants a ccw.
 
I agree to both opinions. For a person who has no pistol marksmanship experience, however you break up 8, 12 or 16 hours of training in the classroom and on the range might not be enough to give you that warm and fuzzy that they're not going to do more harm than good in a real situation.

For someone that has that experience, those hours may seem like they're wasted on deaf ears. I guess you have to teach to the lowest denominator, just like our pathetic education system.

I've never taken the Ohio class because of my military exemption.

the ISP just posted all the applications as well as required curriculum.

I will be filling out apps and signing off on this paperwork, and send it all in on tuesday.....

4 hours live fire...that's quite a chunk of time on the range.
 
I've got 200 9mm casings ready for charges and projectiles, ~550 casings in stages of tumbling, decapping and flaring and 750 cast .40 boolits tumble lubed and drying overnight for sizing.

I'll continue lubing and sizing .40 boolits while working on the 9mm casings until I've got my 1000 9mm primers installed, then from there I'll either build 9mm or or the .40s until I've got to replenish components. I'll run out of 9mm projectiles first. Only have 500 of those.

These 250 rounds are for my buddy. He supplied me with his own spent brass and used wheel weights. I told him I would charge him cost for reloading his ammo.

What's .40 cost these days? Like $30/50? Well, Paul is gonna get these for a whopping $17.50 for 250rds. I think he'll be pleased with the cost.

I use almost the very tip of my finger to shoot. Even when my hands were calloused, the Glock trigger would rub my finger wrong. Not to say that a lot of trigger time wouldn't cure that, but I'd rather just the gun have a break-in period. Not me.

That being said, that's my only gripe about Glocks. They can be used & abused and love to run dirty.

Ok, the price point is a little bit of a gripe for me too, but the barrel technology they have developed is one of I think two manufacturers that use the polygonal riflings. No cast bullets through those.



Side note: I was telling Flex earlier, when it comes time for a compact .45 to go in my waistband, I'll be looking at the M&P.45c.

P.S. I got another 500rds of .40 produced today. I'll be switching my press over to 9mm stuff soon.
