Aftermarket Headlights

What would be the best aftermarket headlights for an XJ - Chrome or Black background, and will it withstand an HID bulb?

Also, I'm thinking the headlight size for an 89 Cherokee XJ is the same 87-2000 but not positive.. Hope someone can help me here also.

Thanks :)

Well, im not really sure what your talking about here. Do you mean you are getting aftermarket housings?? if you are, get housings that support h4 bulbs, then you can get HIDs much easier.
talk to tcm glx, he will set you up.

Same size for all the years, with the exception of the wagoneer.

When you say black background, I'm assuming you are talking about the ones from EBAY. DON'T buy any of that crap off ebay.

Hella E-codes, or Cibies are good headlamps. You can get the E-codes from www.rallylights.com.

They should withstand HID.

- All 84-01 Cherokees ran the same 6054 headlight (also called a 200mm, 6x8, or even a 6x7 headlight)
- Black headlights are crap. Fake projector headlights are crap. Black fake projector headlights are... you get the picture
- Hellas, and Cibies have a good reputation. Autopals are a good value.

- Aftermarket HID kits can be iffy, so buy them at your own peril.
- Your best option is to buy a set of oem D1S take-offs, and slap them into a set of H4 to D2S/D2R Adapters
- If you do go with aftermarket HIDS than - for the love of everything holy - please stay under 6000k

The Hella Vision Plus housings have a less than ideal 'cut' in the lens... they are DOT approved (part of the problem) but they reportedly scatter (waste) too much light.

I much prefer these E-code housings http://www.rallylights.com/detail.aspx?ID=354 (These are similar to the Vision Plus, but have a euro-approved ECE pattern with a very sharp low-beam horizontal cut-off) I've used these in several Jeeps, and a couple cars.

Susquehanna Motorsports is a very reputable vendor IMLE.

Also the IPF (ARB vendors sell em) E-code -non MSR- H4 housings are great too. I ran IPF 170W/110W -930 Super- H4 bulbs initially, bright as a supernova, but not very long-lived. Standard Hella halogen 130/90 H4 offer much better life, with a bit less brightness.

If you are set on HID, I can't offer much advice. If using high-octane halogen or xenon gas mix bulbs, an upgraded wiring harness (like BigOffroad or IPF) and proper aiming of the housings is essential.

Very few products rate the Woody Seal Of Approval™ (meaning I use them, and buy them for my momma, wife & kids) Hella & IPF ECE H4 lenses & Hella bulbs do.

I love my Autopal's and they were like 42 bucks shipped. The euro beam pattern is much better than the DOT setup. The only problem is that they aren't manufactured in the USA. I'm gonna order the hi/lo HID setup from tcm glx fairly soon.

is the website you recommended where i can get HIDs for the jeep?

Anyone use the Rampage H4 Conversion kit: http://www.quadratec.com/products/97009_501.htm ? I'm not a fan of the stock headlights at all, and though I'd like to do an HID retrofit, that won't come for a while.
IMO, 90bucks is too much for those headlights. I would go with autopals.

Also, anyone know where to get replacement headlamp retainers and screws? My retainers are in ok shape, but the screws are rusted really bad.
Ebay, wreckers, teamcherokee.com (email them, they might have them).
