About this DJ Josh guy...

haha! There is no 'ctrl' button on Chuck Norris's computer. Chuck Norris is always in control. If Chuck Norris received 1 vote for SoCal Pres, and Jim received 14 and I received 15, we all loose to Chuck

I've conducted tech inspections for various events although I can admit that inspections were overlooked in the last two events due to scrambling last minute. Safety requirements should not be over looked. There are scenarios when performing tech inspections on 50+ rigs the morning of the run may not be feasible when you have limited time and no preplanned support. At that point, you have to ask the trail leaders to check at the trail head.

To address this issue, the event planning needs to start much earlier and have contingency plans for no-shows. I would appoint 2-5 members to be the tech inspectors and have backups. It works much better when you begin registration and tech inspections the day people arrive.

In response to this I would simply ask, how do you begin inspections when people arrive? At JV it may be a tad more possible, but in places such as BB, people are staying at campgrounds, cabins, motels, Rick's place, etc. And with everyone showing up on alternate schedules, how do you know who has been inspected and who hasn't been inspected the day of the run.

As you said, trying to inspect that many vehicles at the meeting point the day of the run is just unfeasible. And I know that personally, if I were subjected to additional hours of wait time to get on the trail, it honestly wouldn't be worth showing up. Personally, I think the new BOD needs to enforce personal responsibilty. The requirements are clearly posted or easily attainable, and if anyone is in question, all they need do is ask and has been proven previously...on many accounts....multiple folks will offer links to the requirements and/or a list of required equipment.

But I think in an effort encourage folks to show, the last thing we need is a Socialist agenda in charge of the SoCal chapter that will cripple the club in an effort to appeal to everyone's every desire....one Obama administration is enough. =) But I do believe you've addressed this to some extent already.

FYI: with a car fire you need more then one extinguisher. It took 5 extinguishers to save a vehicle from burning down. If only few people have an extinguisher and a fire starts that might not be enough. I carry two extinguishers since then and I think that everyone should carry at least one.

Heh, I put my engine fire out with one house extinguisher...which is what I now carry in the Jeep....just in case. =)

for the Moab Fall Fling, the way that seemed to work the best was that people can sign up / register Friday and Saturday morning. We would have tech inspection forms along with the membership roster. If they pass the tech inspection, they would get a sticker on their rig. If they dont pass, the driver can ask for spare items that they are lacking to borrow or they can go buy if they have sufficient time and money.

The more that register on Friday, the less that have to be inspected on Saturday morning. Its definitely different with the Fall Fling when the event runs a over a whole week and the arrivals are spaced out more.

Now there are occurrences when there are rigs that havent received an inspection or didnt pass but they still go on the runs. I dont think we would be uber militant about it but if we can make our best efforts to accomplish this, the safer we will all be. Safety is the primary concern of the inspection. We don't need to have every trail spare needed but as long as the groups can be better prepared for accidents and medical emergencies, the better off we will be and possibly spare a life because of the preparation.

I'm gonna differ from you a bit on this. When I trail lead I'm taking responsibility for everyone's saftey and enjoyment. So while it is subjective I would say the trail leader has final say.

I dont think we differ that much. My point is that the chapter should do everything we can to make sure that the rigs are safe for the run and I agree that the trail leader can take some responsibility. There are definitely conditions where its up to the trail leader to accept a rig that doesnt meet the requirements. Sometimes you know the person is a damn good driver and can hold their own. It doesnt have to be a hard rule unless you want it to be.

hopefully thats clear as mud :D

if anyone has any questions, post up or PM me if you wanna be super secret

Huh??????????? Keeping secrets from us....shame on you.lol

na, I'm quite honest and blunt. I was trying to be accomodating for those who want to ask controversial questions but remain anonymous to everyone else. Id post my answer in this thread but will not disclose who asked if they requested to remain confidential. Some peepz are shy or afraid of backlash. :D

Who killed Kennedy? That question has been keeping me up at night. I need some closure.

Chuck Norris did because he puts the "laughter" in "manslaughter".

Chuck Norris is 1/8th Cherokee. This has nothing to do with ancestry, the man ate a f'ing Jeep!

While that is true it isn't the whole story.

Every night after he brushes his teeth (with broken glass) and gets into his pajamas Chuck Norris worriedly checks the closet to make sure Remi Rundzio isn't lurking there ready to strike.
