A small irritation.

we were going to bring back the spring run, just not in moab, but up until recently we were under the impression you were still wanting to do the geostash, so we had planned around that for the moment, but finding out that your not wanting to do it changed a couple things

Quoted from another thread.

It's true that I won't be able to put the Geostash on this year. I'm curious though as to why no one has asked me directly about this.

If you guys wanted to put the event on you could easily have done it without me being in charge and I've even stated that I would have been happy to help where I could. The biggest reason I can't put the event on is that I will be in Colorado.

This is the third or fourth time where you guys have made assumptions about what I've said or done without talking to me directly. You all have my phone number...if you have questions about this stuff, call me.

Oh and like I said in the title.

This is a small thing. I'm not overly upset or anything. Just curious as to why nobody will talk to me directly about these things.

back in the end of nov, i did talk to you directly about this(well over the phone but it was your voice) and you said that, you were still wanting to do the geostach, you also said that you would put it on and do all but get vendors and i said ok that works we can get vendors. then i see you told national that you had no interest in doing it this yr.
I have put the event on for the last four years. I told them I wasn't interested and I don't think they were either. Not sure what their plans are though.
which thats NOT what you told me. you knew we really didn't have an interest which is fine we don't but as of an event we were gonna keep it around cause there was interest in it, it just wasn't gonna be the main event.

I am not interested in putting the event on. I didn't tell them that you weren't going to do it, in the quote you posted I said I didn't know what your plans were.

I told you I would help out. I said I could place caches and deal with my cousin on using his ranch. I never told you or anyone that I would actually put the thing together.

I've tried to be pretty clear that I don't want to involve myself to that extent.

Still, it doesn't mean I am not interested in helping out in small ways....leading trails here and there or like I told you, placing caches and such if you held the Geostash again.

It's really no big thing. I never figured you would put that particular event on again anyway. While I know there has been interest from a certain part of our membership, I know there is also a lot of interest in doing other things. That is one reason why I was a little surprised when you guys didn't do a spring Moab run. I was under the impression that it was a pretty popular idea.

it's just driving around in circles looking for caches doesn't seem fun to me, but to others it is so we were gonna keep it around initially. i do quit a bit of caching with my kids throughout the yr just its a point A-B thing.

its not that big of a deal to me, there are plenty of other options in this state to have any type of event anywhere. so if you don't wanna do it i'm fine with that. i was just saying it wasn't what we were under the impression of.

I like the Geostash and I like other things. I am mostly interested on what event is going to be the main event when the products that are donated will be given away. I have to put in vacation time now and want to know what event to look forward too. One thing about the Geostash is attendence has been big and we have made some good money at the events and i think it is because more people are comfortable with the skill level.

I would not mind helping place caches if you do something like that, but I would not want to plan an event again either. Thats a big reason for taking a break from the BOD. Whatever you do I just want to see it be a success and help where I have unpressured time so I can enjoy it.hasta

The least amount of money we ever made at the Geostash brought in over triple the the money we brought in at any other event. That has to say something.

I'm not defending it or even suggesting you guys go that way. I think change is good.

The whole reason I brought this thread up was over the communication issue, not whether you should put that event on again.

what other events? or you mean national wise?

as for the communication thing well like anything else when it comes to he said she said i end up wrong cause i already have an ex to fight with, don't feel like arguing with more.

The three spring runs in Moab we did before the Geostash. They were the only other runs where we had vendors give us items in return for a raffle or in the case of the stash, poker hands.

ahh gotcha

We are trying to figure something out for our signature event. Originally, we were going to do Moab, but we keep leaning to Hurricane. We just need to decide and post it.

Do you think you can get enough people to travel that far?

This chapter will complain if they have to travel further than 40 miles.

but if its an EVENT with a raffle and such you think they wouldn't?
Its actually faster to drive to Hurricane than to Moab by 1/2 hour. Even in my Jeep!

yea it was weird how fast we got to cedar, we still thought we had hours to go haha

Just going from my experience, I would say no. At least not as many as you would if you did it somewhere closer.

One thing you guys will learn (Josh probably remembers) is that this chapter is filled with the most penny pinching, tight wad people you are bound to ever meet.

Look at the Geostash. The biggest reason people said they wouldn't come is because it was 100 miles from the valley. Hurricane is three times that distance.

It never hurts to ask people what they want to do. Judging from what you guys said and from rumblings I heard before you guys took office, people really really want another spring Moab run.

I would Agree on the distance thing. The last three years I had people asking if we could do the Geostash closer because of the distance. Moab gets people to come because it is already on the to do list for the year for the most part. I wouldn't mind going somewhere new. But the closer it the more people will come that works good for a fund raising event. Remember from a financial point of view the more participation the more money that is generated for the chapter and the place you are sending donations to.

the only problem is, if you want to have a decent event around this valley its a 2 hour minimum drive to get anywhere decent

2 hours you still might be able to get people to come that are not staying the night or can't afford the vacation time and will come for just the day. We got a lot of people that did that every year up in the Uintas and farmington canyon. What else is in that window that could be put in consideration? What about doing an event in Price for a main event that people could still push a day trip out of it and have a variety of trail skill levels. Also could be a good time if trails are being shut down in that area to get people to see it and maybe be willing to speak their mind a little more. Maybe a main event based around trail maintenance or an event getting people to map the trails to present to BLM for the files that they lost. Just some ideas.
