A few questions. I'd like to fix up my mosey tomorrow.

First of all....I hope you replaced those battery cables????!!! I would not worry about another electrical problem until those things are replaced. They where quite possibly the worst battery cables I've ever seen.

Also I've been really busy lately but if you want that track bar drop bracket, you can have it. Only catch is you will have to meet me farther north on the Parkway.

Not yet. When money comes I'm going to mass horde all the stuff I need for my Jeep. (tools, dif fluid, RTV, battery cables, 5w30,etcetc) Next time I'm going up north I'll let you know.

So I drove my Jeep for the first time in 2 days (Wisdom teeth). I went to go put a little bit of gas in. Here is what I saw. Volt gauge dropped and check gauge light was on. Now I dont know if it was the percocet or the issue but my head lights seemed a tiny tiny bit more dimmed. And my dash lights were as well (I turned the brightness all the way up too). As skreed said my cables look HORRID. And I'm hoping this is the cause to my troubles.
Tomorrow I go and grab my last tiny pay check. I'm hoping to get motor oil (5w30? 270k miles) dif fluid (what weight?) and RTV sillicone for my dif covers. I'd also like to buy new cables for my battery. I dont know how thick I should go and I dont know if I should go to a hardware store or to autism zone. (there is also a family auto parts store not too far away) But my ground needs to be replaced. Its frayed to hell as well as my other cables. Let me go snap a pic.

Sorry for the slight blurriness. I blame the percs and weed.

Anybody have anything? I searched and found nothing. (although I am now interested in doing a durango alternator swap) the "new" alternator I put in my xj was out of a 93 wrangler sahara. Which I believe was 93 amps?

Those battery cables are a joke and a fire hazard... I would bet that even if that is not the whole cause of your issues it will help... plus is your serp belt tight? if your not spinning the alternator properly then that will be an issue too. Junkyard stuff is nice but with things like electrical for the few (probably very few) more dollars your better off just getting a re-man one from a parts store.

The belt is tight and I just dont see how it could act up out of no where. Unless those nasty cables twisted themselves or "vibrated" themselves useless. Either way I'm going to try and locate new cables tomorrow.

And btw my engine makes a ticking noise when I kill it. It almost sounds like when an exhaust system is really hot and it makes that "dit dit dit dit dit" noise. But my engine wasnt hot...

Okay well since everyone is hating me right now. Can I just ask what wieght dif oil I should get and if local auto part stores sell battery cables? And what price wise am I looking at?

omg, those are some ugly ass battery cables. Get 5-90's battery cables, from what I've seen they beat everything in quality.

Thanks for the info on the oil. So 2 for the 30 and 2 for the 8.25.

I know those cables or disgusting. At least I got a newish battery. So here is what I currently have going on.

I disconected my cables from the battery and have the battery charger under my hood right now. I do believe my headlights and inner lights are more dim. And when I tried hitting the switch for the back windows my radio would cut out (clock and radio). then cut back on when I let go. So definetly some surging going on. Probably because the batteries been draining and not charging since this issue occured (last night). So tomorrow I'm going to pick up my last paycheck. I hope I'll have atleast enough to get battery cables. If I were to make my own where could I pick up new cables? I dont have the time to order new cables as I need them asap because it is also my daily driver.

So tomorrow I'm going to try strauss, pep boys ,auto zone, advance auto parts or the family owned one (car port). And try to pick up new cables.

Now the cable that goes from my alternator to my battery. Is that a positive or a negative cable? Because there is a cable coming from the big harness that is frayed to hell. And my cable from my neg terminal to my fender is loose and frayed.

Ugh guys :(

I know I ask this all the time. Like I said in the past they are either really retarded or never carry the parts I need.

You must be using the wrong places...

Go to Autozone and Get these
UniMarine.jpg

And 2 cables with these ends
Straight_Copper_Tube_Lug_SM.jpg
they will be 4 gauge

Now look for two short cables smaller gauge i think they are for lawn mowers and there 6 gauge.

Connect pos on batt to starter, neg on battery to your grounding point usually in the engine block near the dip stick.

Take the other smaller cable and replace the one running from the fuse box in the engine bay to batt.

and use the other to replace the ground.

This is how I did it Autozone has all the stuff I just mentioned. I like it cause I just have to turn the wing nuts to disconnect my battery no tools needed.

The other day I saw 1 guage cables at the tractor supply but I dont know if you have them by you.

Your looking at prob 40 bucks.
